Thread for Obama supporter personal profiles.
OK Obama supporters, we have been called "cultists," "Berkinstock-wearing Starbuck's-going trustfund
babies," "hippies," "liberal elitists," "koolaid drinking college kids," ... Of course it's all just sad, cynical crap, but I'm going to share a bit of my "profile" and see how I match up against these pathetic stereotypes:

I am:
1) male
2) European descent
3) mother a nurse, father a plumber and then state worker
4) product of public schools
5) no trust fund in sight
6) don't drink coffee
7) short hair, no mustache, no beard, no Berkies, no crocks, no face jewelry
8) 40 yrs. old
9) professional educator, athletics coach, club advisor, deer hunter
10) father, husband, small homeowner, own a US made car, fly the flag, involved in civic organizations, Freemason, Shriner, bible reader, army veteran, drink very little, don't smoke anything, NEVER do drugs, active in local Democratic politics.

Hmmmm??? Do I fit the stereotype? Guess not. And when I went to the Obama event near my hometown the 10,000 others included young people, old people, and middle aged people from every walk of life. So enough of these sad, silly, insulting stereotypes. We are AMERICANS who are not blind idealists but rather hopeful optimists who are looking for badly needed change and who have a desire to be inspired by our leaders again. And that is a GOOD thing. It is wonderful, and very, very, AMERICAN !! It is America at its FINEST ! - Would love to hear from others.

6. I am
still wondering why I came back from Paris in 1983 after four years in France. It's been three decades of right-wing and corporate-dominated bullshit ever since.

All will be permanently forgiven, America, when Barack Obama is sworn in before a stunned George W. Bush in January 2009.

I believe if you want to win it, you have to be ready to outwork the opposition. Always ready.

18. Just an old foagie...
I am:
1) male
2) European descent
3) son of a working mom and a newspaper editor
4) product of public schools - parents wouldn't have sent me to a private school for love nor money. Public schools are the glue that helps hold the country together.
5) Father just died, left me a hat and his medals from WW II, but no trust fund.
6) drink way too much coffee
7) vary from shaved head to pony tail, full beard, no tats, but if I could think of one I'd like I'd get one.
8) 60 yrs. old
9) I.T. guy
10) Single, climber, skier, paraglider pilot, kayaker, Buddhist, hospice worker, Democrat since I toddled along after my father carrying a sign for Adlai Stevenson, aside from a few years in the middle where I went considerably to the left of that.

My father died last December. We talked politics up until he was no loner conscious. He was pissed that he wouldn't get to vote in this cycle, he really wanted to see a Democrat in the White House before he died. I'll do whatever I can to make that happen for him, for me and for the rest of us, too. I know some of Barack's senate staff in Washington, D.C., I know that if those folks work for him, he'll be a fine president.

2) European descent
3) raised working class/poor; parents now middle class
4) product of public schools
5) no trust fund in sight, no SAVINGS in sight (nothing to save)

7) average height, weight, unremarkable appearance (one tattoo)
8) 32 years old
9) former college instructor, now high school teacher
10)guardian to two mutts adopted from the shelter (and yes, I'm one of "those" people
11)drive a 7-year-old no-frills, GM car
12)love Mexican food and beer
13)love my family, am crazy close with my mom
14)love my friends (recently moved here, very lonely)
15)sad and not a little scared, but very hopeful and looking forward to a time when I can feel good about the future again.

Nothing exciting or remarkable here! I'm very liberal but also quite cynical and have no illusions of messianic grandeur. One of the things I most admire about Obama is his clear leadership and organizational skills--look at the effectiveness of the ground campaign he has run. That combined with his message and delivery has resulted in quite a movement that could do...well, a lot more than I would have even dared to hope not very long ago.

28. I'm one of those older, white, married women who is supposed to be
for HRC.

We own a small business (gifts for dog and cat owners, supplies and toys for dogs) and a boarding kennel.

I have two grown sons, both electrical engineers employed in computer stuff here in Texas.

I've been a Democrat since I left home for the University of Texas in 1962.

I drive a small diesel station wagon, I like my coffee black, eleven Golden Retrievers share our home, and Birkenstocks make my feet hurt.

I didn't want Obama to run this time, but when he attracted more than 20,000 people in the rain in Austin a year ago, I realized he might be able to bring it off.

I started the campaign liking everything about HRC except her vote on the war and her speaking style.

I am completely behind Obama and pray that he will help us take our country back before it's too late for me to see.
