Jeebus, Stop With The $1200. For Donuts Already
Let me say at the outset that she is not my candidate of choice but some of the issues being yammered about are such throwaways. An army travels on its stomach and a lot of the people being fed are volunteers. A slice of pizza or a sandwich and coke for 16 hours of work is the least that can be done for these people, who choice might be different than mine, but are passionate enough about democracy to work for it. This is the Edward's haircut in a different form.

1. Having gone door-to-door and phone banked and strategized for a slice of pizza
I concur!

Ain't nothing like a campaign volunteer.

A Special Breed.

2. You're right--the $25,000 bill for hotel rooms 3 days in Iowa is worse.

13. Let's breakdown this hotel bill
$25000 / 3 days = $8333 per day. Let's say she has a paid campaign staff of 20 people (just a guesstimate.. feel free to let me know how many she has). Assuming people will double up in rooms, that means 10 rooms, with an additional 2 for meeting and computer space. So we have $8333 / 12 = $694 per night per room, assuming no other expenses group such as the Clinton Campaign would require additional hotel personnel help and resources, plus food and room service orders. Assuming the campaign pays the hotel $1000 for any and logistics per day, that makes the per room $611. I agree that this is not cheap, but I am not surprised the campaign stayed at a nice hotel, and I wouldn't be surprised if some overbilling took place.

14. To My Point
Also, hotels are probably charging them for computer hook-ups in public rooms, along with any video equipment they might need. Even if they brought their own there will be some type of charge, and I wouldn't assume there is doubling up in the rooms. If you've been with someone all day every day you sure don't want to bunk with them. Also, visiting dignitaries and local officials are generally offered refreshment. And what do they do for the press?

3. I agree.
I have been in many situations where something simple like coffee and donuts can raise the morale of volunteers and show appreciation.

However when you spend $9000 on sandwiches for a get out the vote campaign, have your whole staff with suites at the four seasons and bellagio, you have a much larger issue on your hands.

I love edwards but I think edwards hair cut was far worse than the $1200 in donuts and coffee.

7. As To That Haircut
The guy closed his shop and went to Edwards on the campaign trail. He was fairly compensated for the loss of business he would have while doing the cut at Edwards' convenience. I liked the fact that they didn't try to chisel the guy out of fair compensation like so many do.
