Thank you to those who went out and protested the war today.
I didn't protest, myself, however it's important to me to know that those who support Kerry so wholeheartedly are out there directly fighting the Bush administration's immoral and impractical foreign policy, which advocates invading and occupying countries which have never posed any threat to the United States. This policy destroys the moral authority of our country and only restricts our ability to fight the real terrorists who truly would destroy us, if given the chance, and feeds their resolve.

While this war is and has always been obviously wrong for us, in particular with the Bush administration in power, let's not forget that the war against Al Qaeda is pertinent to our national and personal security. We can not let the line between the Iraq war and the war on terror be blurred, as the Republicans would have it. We must remain strong in true defense of our national security, while remaining focused and showing the world that we do not mean harm to those that do not mean harm to us.

1. I was in our town's eveing peace vigil tonite...
I wish I could say I support Kerry...I find less & less reason to be able to do that.... ( I will reluctantly give him my vote I suppose) ...

I am disappointed that Kerry will basically continue the war bush* started and Kerry voted for but let me tell you...I am very unimpressed with Kerry's actions since he (more or less) has the nom.

I am so grateful DK is still speaking up and hope many will vote for him in the primaries/caucuses so when the convention comes Dennis will be there to work on getting some progressive issues into the platform.

and as long as we are in Iraq as occupiers, we will make no great strides in eliminating or preventing terrorism.

Peace
DR

5. I'm with ya, Desertrose!
Our choice has been set for us, but that doesn't mean I'm happy with it.

So, many protesters were *not* there for Kerry. Here in Denver, there was a very strong presence for Dennis. In fact, I heard many people commenting on how many Kucitizens there were!

We're working hard here to get out the word, and hopefully he will do very well at our caucuses.

Kanary, who had a great time passing out "Peace Please" bumperstickers :hi:

Another Delusional Diehard for Dennis!!

7. Kerry supporters?
I sure didn't see ANYONE at our St. Paul march today with any Kerry buttons/signs/whatever.

LOTS and LOTS of Kucinich signs, though.

Random conversations with folks in the crowd of 2000 or so were pretty consistent; not one person I talked to was happy about "being stuck with Kerry" for the Dem candidate -- and these were people who WEREN'T carrying Kucinich signs or wearing Kucinich buttons.

There was one guy I talked to who said he had been a Kerry supporter at the beginning, but as time went on, he said, he was getting a "sick feeling" about having to vote for him.

Anyway, that's not to say, of course, that there WEREN'T any Kerry supporters in the march, I just didn't see anyone advertising the fact. (and I milled around quite a bit through the crowd when we were all assembled at the Capital for the speeches.)

Sorry. I think it's only logical that the dedicated anti-war crowd isn't going to see Kerry as any kind of champion for the cause. Why would they?

13. "Kerry supporters" and "war protestors" are 2 different sets of people.
Kerry is FOR the war, remember?

Incidentally, the "war against Al Qaeda" is utter baloney, just like the Iraq war. The only thing The War on Terror has to do with "our national security" is that by fighting it, we enter into an endless loop of creating more of the enemy. The very concept of the war is stupid and self-defeating. It's like digging holes in order to fill them; in the WoT, you fight the enemy so that you have more enemy to fight. You increase the supply of enemy; this justifies larger military appropriations, more fear, & round & round she goes.

This bit here is a pile of hooey: "We must remain strong in true defense of our national security, while remaining focused and showing the world that we do not mean harm to those that do not mean harm to us." It isn't true at all that we don't mean harm to those who don't mean harm to us. The US is (and has been for a long time) on a mission to dominate the whole world. This involves harming people, usually defenseless people, no matter if they mean harm to us or not. And we have been doing that for a century already. Just because this isn't widely understood, domestically, doesn't alter the reality.

The best thing to do with our "national security" would be to forget about it and stop talking about it. Our military is overbuilt by about 500%. The less talk about this security bullshit, the better. Our problem is not that we're not secure enough - it's that we can't stop killing other people, in our greedy desire to control their oil and make them perform slave labor for us.

14. You're so right, RichM!
As you say, it's baloney that the US wishes no harm to those who wish the US no harm.

If they have something we want, harm is what they'll get.

As coincidence would have it, I'm watching a history of Hawai'i, and that's just what the US did there, as it has in so many there places. Big business wins out.

What scares me is that so many will "trust" Kerry to do "the right thing", and will only realize much later that it isn't being turned around. His feet will have to be held to the fire From The Very Beginning.

Thanks for your words of truth.

Kanary, ever hoping...

15. Was the message "Cut and Run?"
What were the solutions mentioned in the march where you were?

I went to a small gathering and noticed a large percentage of people who basically just wanted us to pull out the troops and leave Iraq a destroyed headless country that would then just go into a civil war and worse.

People were wearing Kucinich merch and there was some burnout trying to get people to sign up for Nader.

I talked with a few knuckleheads who kept talking about Skull and Bones bullshit. No realistic solutions from anybody, mostly just a chance to take a break from the pot party back at the flophouse.

Very disappointing...
