Anyone else noticing that the millions of dollars worth of Bush ads...
...purchased with hard money no less appear to be blending into the nothingness of Coke and UBS commercials?

1. Oversaturation maybe.
The * Administration's belief that if you repeat the the same thing enough times people will believe it may be backfiring on them. People are becoming desensitized to the media blitz. Either that or they're deliberately tuning it out because it's so disgusting.

3. I must not view or hear right-wing media, because I have yet to see
one Bush ad.

4. image-building ads
Before I was a teacher, I was a marketing executive so here are my thoughts on bush's ads.

First of all they are image-building ads. Recall that during the campaign of 2000, bush's code name by his staff was "The Package." That is how they think of him--he is just the "brand name." Brand name Bush.

Brand name ads such as these are not intended to appeal to the conscious. They appeal to the subconscious through images and as such, work on the emotional triggers for motivating voting.

Will they work? Good question. I am sure such image-building ads have been run before but not around a disaster like the WTC.

One big advantage of running such ads is that they don't have to talk about the issues. If they talked about the issues, they'd have to lie because their position on the issues is not something most voters want.

A disadvantage of running such a campaign is that it takes mega-, megabucks to make an impression. It is very costly to build an image and it's debatable whether an image, once it's suffered credibility, can be restored.

5. 3 out of 4 cats
last night, we had 3 of our 4 cats lounging on the bed as we watched tv

a bush* commercial (or as we call it propa-mercials)came on and all 3 cats left the room.

the bush* propa-mercial was followed by a few more commericals, the three cats came back and settled down

the last commercial just before the program returned was another bush* propa-mercial and again the 3 cats left the room and returned once the propa-mercial was over

they do the same thing whenever bush* is on - leave the room and return when he's gone...

6. Cats are highly sensitive to emotions
They could probably feel you getting agitated. Either that, or they are just as disgusted by the weasel as the rest of us.

Are your cats registered to vote?

7. Cats can be repulsed by the odor of a "dirty litterbox"
Maybe Bush's face is the visual equivalent of that?

9. Selection 2000:
When I went to bed, Gore had been called the winner. When I woke up, the news was blaring that Bush had won, and my dogs were FREAKING, running around wild eyed, following me everywhere, burrowing behind me on the sofa. They really do sense emotions, because I was feeling the same way: "the nut crew got in. HIDE!"

10. funny but I wasn't expecting to see so many
here in N.C. so far out in front of the election. I thought NC was supposed to be safe for bush. We haven't even had the dem candidates campaigning here because our primary or caucus is way after the winner has been determined (though we did have a candidate in the race).

12. Haven't noticed that in Texas.
Here we just have the Bush-free, but very Bush-like, zone of beer and truck commercials made solely for broadcast in Texas. Sucks not to have any say in how the government is run, but at least the lopsided nature of politics here spares me the commercials for The Messiah.

PS: If you don't believe me about the beer commercials, look at this:

13. Yes, and I HOPe they're spending a LOT!!!!!
Within this thread someone said these type of ads cost a lot of $$. I hope so! They need to do something with the $200MM. I think, although somewhat biased, that they will backfire. The general public gets tired of the campaign ads when they have to listed to them for 4 or 5 months. This time they're going to be on for more than 7 months! I say, let * run his expensive ads for now......and spend a LOT of money! The most convincing ads are run in Sept and Oct whenat least some people pay attention.
