Poll question: Will November be your first time voting in a Presidential election?
Let's get an idea of how many first-time voters we have here.

3. First eligible vote (and campaign) was 1988
Although I paid close attention to the 1984 race, as I'm a Minnesotan and Mondale was the nominee.

I organized two precincts for Dukakis for the precinct caucuses in 1988, and did fairly well, considering we didn't have much of an organization at the time in my part of the state. We placed second in a legislative district that was represented by a guy who was two steps to the right of John Ashcroft.

4. Yep, and I can't wait!
My birthday is Sept. 2nd. Can't wait until I can personally kick Dubya out of the White House.

*Me*. *I* get to personally kick that squatter out of Gore's home. I can't wait.

6. Gaack! You're old (but lovely, I am sure); mine was 1972.
Worked for "Clean Gene" McCarthy in high school in 1968; lost my heart after the MLK and RFK assassinations. What a year. Hope you voted for Humphrey-Muskie. Another two days, and they would have pulled it off. Instead, Nixon-Agnew. Ugh. Ugh.

7. Yep, I had a McCarthy flower on my car. :)
And I worked in a local effort to "Bring Lyndon Home".

That was a really active year. My second son was born during the Tet Offensive, so I did everything I could to get a Democrat elected in '68..

I really hated the idea that I was just producing canon fodder.

And yes, I'm gettin' old. My sweety tells me I'm still lovely, but maybe his eyesight is failing. :))

11. I cast my first vote in 1954 - not a presidential year.
Eisenhower was president then.

I remember grandparents on both sides talking to me about which political party I should register in. Three grandparents were solid Democrats, and one was a Republican. I chose Republican because "I liked Ike." Interesting now to look back at how little I knew. I switched to Democrat as soon as I learned more (by 1956) in college.

My parents were Democrats (had been since the Depression) but they were leaning Republican in the 50s. They eventually made the official change to Republican sometime in the 60s and that's where they stayed the rest of their lives. My mother kept an autographed picture of Nixon on display for 30 years or more. She never had a good thing to say about the Kennedys. All of my siblings and their spouses are very strong Republicans to this day.
