Hold up! Hold the f*#k up! Cindy McCain is going after Michelle Obama? Now that is f'ing comedy!
Does Cindy McCain really want to pick a fight with Michelle Obama?

-snip-
The "first time" remark prompted a response Tuesday from the wife of Republican candidate John McCain, who in a speech implicitly criticized Michelle Obama without naming names.

"I am proud of my country, " Cindy McCain said. "I don't know about you. If you heard those words earlier, I am very proud of my country."

The Obama campaign said in a statement Tuesday: "Of course Michelle is proud of her country, which is why she and Barack talk constantly about how their story wouldn't be possible in any other nation on Earth. What she meant is that she's really proud at this moment because for the first time in a long time, thousands of Americans who've never participated in politics before are coming out in record numbers to build a grass-roots movement for change."

and her powerful husband's men tried to hush it all up.

there is a well of dirt on McCain that the enamored press never cared about - but we have these tubes now, and can shout it ourselves:

http://www.washingtonmonthly.com/features/2006/0607.benen.html
McCain was still married and living with his wife in 1979 while, according to The New York Times' Nicholas Kristof, "aggressively courting a 25-year-old woman who was as beautiful as she was rich." McCain divorced his wife, who had raised their three children while he was imprisoned in Vietnam, then launched his political career with his new wife's family money. In 2000, McCain managed to deflect media questioning about his first marriage with a deft admission of responsibility for its failure. It's possible that the age of the offense and McCain's charmed relationship with the press will pull him through again, but Giuliani and Gingrich may face a more difficult challenge. Both conducted well-documented affairs in the last decade--while still in public office.

42. Republican Family Values
I just posted this elsewhere but I'll add it here too. It's from Wikipedia's bio of John McCain.

"During their time in Jacksonville, the McCains' marriage began to falter. McCain had extramarital affairs, and he would later say, "My marriage's collapse was attributable to my own selfishness and immaturity more than it was to Vietnam, and I cannot escape blame by pointing a finger at the war. The blame was entirely mine." His wife Carol would later echo those sentiments, saying "I attribute more to John turning 40 and wanting to be 25 again than I do to anything else."

One side note: of the 3 children in that marriage, 2 were hers from a previous marriage which he adopted and one was their mutual child. Cindy McCain is 17 years her husband's junior.

12. agree. The campaign doesn't need to explain shit
about what Michelle meant. They should do their work if the american people is so stupid. I don't want the Obama campaign to begin with the "we didn't meant it" "what we meant was" "what I said was".. that reminds everyone of Kerry with his " i voted for it before i voted against it" comment.

You say what you say and stick to your grounds whatever those grounds may be.

I am tired of us Democrats being accused of being the weak/girly party..

Agree, the campaign has nothing to explain or apologize for. Take a look at what you've seen in our country since 1980 and don't you think we may be about to have a positive change? Even if you or I don't, it's not hard to understand why MO would think that. Even during the Clinton years, the venom from the RW has cast a shadow over the promise of America.

She was an adult who stole from a charity to get her drugs.

Now I understand that addiction makes people do terrible things and I respect her for beating it ... but under the circumstances, she would be a fool to compare his drug use to hers. JMHO

28. From Wikipedia...
"In 1989, Cindy McCain became addicted to opioid painkillers such as Percocet and Vicodin. She later attributed her addiction to pain following two spinal surgeries for ruptured discs as well as emotional stress during her husband's entanglement in the Keating Five scandal of that time, which also involved her role as a bookkeeper who had difficulty finding receipts of Keating-related expenses. The addiction progressed to the point where she resorted to stealing drugs from her own AVMT. During 1992, Tom Gosinski, the director of government and international affairs for AVMT, discovered her drug theft. Subsequently in 1992, McCain's parents staged an intervention to force her to get help; she told her husband about her problem, attended a drug treatment facility, began outpatient sessions, and ended her three years of addiction; a hysterectomy in 1993 resolved her back pain. In January 1993, McCain terminated Gosinski's employment on grounds of budgetary reasons. In spring 1993, Gosinski tipped off the Drug Enforcement Administration to investigate McCain's drug theft. Her activities violated federal statutes, so a federal investigation was conducted. McCain's defense team, led by Washington lawyer John Dowd, secured an agreement with the U.S. Attorney's office that limited her punishment to financial restitution and enrollment in a diversion program, without anything being made public.

"Meanwhile, in early 1994 Gosinski filed a wrongful termination lawsuit against McCain, which he told her he would settle for $250,000. In April 1994, Dowd requested that Maricopa County officials investigate Gosinski for extortion. At this point, the Phoenix New Times was preparing a negatively-cast story about the whole affair and about to publish it. Cindy McCain pre-empted this by publicly revealing her past addiction, stating she hoped it would give fellow drug addicts courage in their struggles: "Although my conduct did not result in compromising any missions of AVMT, my actions were wrong, and I regret them." A flurry of press attention followed, including charges by Gosinski that she had asked him to lie concerning her drug use when the McCains were applying to adopt their baby from Bangladesh and statements by past AVMT employees that Gosinski had once threatened to blackmail her. A few weeks after her announcement, the Variety Club of Arizona canceled its Humanitarian of the Year award dinner in her honor citing poor ticket sales. In the end, both Gosinski's lawsuit and the extortion investigation against him were dropped. AVMT concluded its activities in 1995."

EVERY WORD YOU SAY WILL BE PARSED! THAT is part and parcel of being the front runner, and the Party nominee!!!!! You all know that, and so do they, but somebody better remind them soon.

O'm not slaming anyone here, but the media and your opponents will snag ANY clip they find, and exploit it for all they can. Barac & Michelle better recognize that real quick! The comments they made are easily explained, but the real trick is NOT TO MAKE THEM IN THE FIRST PLACE!

16. I have to agree with Michelle, we should be proud of our country at this particular time.
However, does Ms McCain refer to period when the head of a charity, and wife of a presidential nominee, she was able to obscure the fact that she was allowed skate on a very serous drug charge. Stealing from a charity that was supposed to help people

I believe Ms Obama was referring to the fact that in spite of these kind of double standards that have dogged poor minorities and economically deprived people, her husband can still prevail. It would have been a career ending move if he were the spouse (white, that is) seeking to occupy the white house.

PS Draft dodgers and coke heads also got a pass. (maybe that made Michele less proud).

Anyone (excluding RW/MSM hacks and fellow travelers) seeing/hearing it in context will understand exactly her intent. The working parents, minorities, and young voters are yearning to be led to the vision of America that is taught in grade school.

That is Obama's strength and both Clinton and the Pukes are completely blind to the ass kicking they are in for.
