For those who have never worked on a campaign, and don't know how speeches are written
Generally it's something like this:

The comm. committee meets and decides the main themes. Depending on the writing teams and candidates, they may write some tag-lines and specific phrases they want included.

The work gets farmed out to one or more speechwriters; if more than one, they may work as a team or work separately to come up with competing drafts.

The draft(s) are reviewed by the comm. committee again, and either throws it out or makes some tweaks. Once the tweaks are decided on, it goes back to the writer(s).

This feedback process repeats until the committee says it's ready.

So, if Obama and Patrick have been collaborating, it's hard to say with any certainty who came up with what.

1. I read this morning on Politico.com that that Patrick section was ad-libbed.
And not part of the official transcript.

2. Interesting ... I've never worked for a candidate who could be trusted to ad-lib
Except Fenty in DC, and that was just door-knocking stuff.

I'm curious how having a candidate who can actually ad-lib would change the writing process.

3. I voted for Fenty.
I wonder if you came to my door.

4. If you live in Columbia Heights, Shaw, or A-M I probably did
Or at least knocked on it.

6. Self-kicking for a reality check
Seriously, people do know that politicians don't write their own speeches, right?
