Do we, or don't we, have a rule about right wing sources?
I am getting sick to death of reading right wing whack jobs opine about both Clinton and Obama. We had to institute a three thread a day rule, OK I can see that. But what about enforcing rules that have been longstanding.

For the record, today I am referring to two threads:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x4645814

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x4641977

Of course the second thread has finally been locked. Every day we can find right wingers quoted by DU members against both Clinton and Obama. Can we please enforce the rules?

1. To dismiss outside opinions is foolish
I know many think anything written and put onto websites by those who arent professed Democrats should be ignored, but those same people have no problem posting or agreeing with a Democratic website article that discusses the same Republican website articles and applies their own filter on it.

Thats no way to foster independant thought, and it does a disservice to those who believe that knowing how Republicans are thinking (without the Dem website filtering) better prepares us for the GE.

2. take that up with Skinner
It is his rule, that I am merely asking to be enforced, evenhandedly I might add.

6. That's a good point. Also
Also, by outright banning a class of sources (as opposed to specific untrustworthy sites), you open the door to potential abuse.
Here, for example a DU'er claims informationclearinghouse.info is a "far-right hate site" and protests linking to it. I cannot determine if the poster did so out of ignorance or in bad faith, but the person smeared a valuable site that abundantly features authors such as Noam Chomsky, Howard Zinn, and occasionally Hugo Chavez (mixed with conservative voices, yes, but typically from the kinds of conservatives who think Bush and the neocons are an abomination).

If you follow the thread, you'll note that having defamed the site, the poster never backed this accusation with a single fact.

As long as there are pertinent, documented facts, I don't care where they come from. Willfully closing our eyes and ears to a group of people won't make the facts go away. It's a conservative thing to do.

8. This place was created as a bulwark against right wings memes & propaganda.
This isn't about dissecting the latest rw argument for counterattack.

This is about asshats on both sides using blatant right wing sources to attack Democrats.

3. I objected to someone
posting an op ed piece from World Net Daily. It was strictly an opinion piece and heavily anti-Obama. When I objected to the source I was asked to defend Obama against the slander. I wasn't even an Obama supporter at the time. I alerted the mods but nothing happened to either the thread or the poster.

That's when I knew that all kinds of flinging poo monkeys would be unleashed on DU.

Hopefully, this will all die down soon, right after Texas and Ohio... maybe.

4. I alert on right wing sources
Most often they've been locked. But we never had a list of them, so maybe what's unacceptable to me isn't to the management sometimes. I leave it to them to decide.
