Obama didn't just borrow a line or two.

Seems former Deval Patrick media consultant, David Axelrod just repackaged an old campaign.

4. So Patrick quotes Obama's speech when introducing Obama, and that's plagiarism?
Citing a willingness to work for change is plagiarism? Saying "this campaign isn't about me, it's about you" is plagiarism? Those are ideas that have existed since the dawn of politics.

David has been handling Obama for 15 years. Everything Obama has said, every vote he has cast, every vote he has skipped, the books (and book deal) was the result of David building to this day.

As someone else said - Obama is All Fluff, No Stuff.

Weak. Very weak.

I'd be more impressed if somebody pointed out that Obama's economic plan has melded with Edwards' so much that you can't tell which is which.

But "he said the same thing as his best friend Deval Patrick. See? Let's compare the words!" reeks of desperation.

22. Why does it represent desperation?
These attacks being wheeled out are the epitomy of desperation. Clinton, the molly coddle establishment candidate - untested, untried up to now and failing her first big test spectacularly - her team and her supporters have reeked of desperation since January. I still find the fact that people buy into her hilarious, given that it's almost impossible not to see the insincerity dripping out of her whenever she speaks. I like her 'concerned' face most of all. I have to give her credit, it must takes hours in front of the mirror to perfect.

We can get Clintonian (this is an insult in my view) and pick apart the words to try to "find" a story, but I'll leave that the Hillaryworld Desperados.

How many times has Hillary uttered "I'm fired up and ready to go" or other Obama phrases? We can go down this nonsensical road or perhaps talk about the issues that matter to the American people.

It seems the Hillaryworld enterprise is hellbent on acting like a snarky, finger-pointing, zit-faced, priggish prude waving and whining that they are a victim.

Is this what the American people want? Fuck no.

11. This is a desperate attempt at spin!
“Don’t tell me words don’t matter,” Mr. Obama said, to applause. “ ‘I have a dream’ — just words? ‘We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal’ — just words? ‘We have nothing to fear but fear itself’ — just words? Just speeches?”

Mr. Patrick employed similar language during his 2006 governor’s race when his Republican rival, Kerry Healey, criticized him as offering lofty rhetoric over specifics. Mr. Patrick has endorsed Mr. Obama, and the two men are close friends.

“ ‘We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal’ — just words? Just words?” Mr. Patrick said one month before his election. “ ‘We have nothing to fear but fear itself’ — just words? ‘Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.’ Just words? ‘I have a dream’ — just words?”

In a telephone interview on Sunday, Mr. Patrick said that he and Mr. Obama first talked about the attacks from their respective rivals last summer, when Mrs. Clinton was raising questions about Mr. Obama’s experience, and that they discussed them again last week.

Both men had anticipated that Mr. Obama’s rhetorical strength would provide a point of criticism. Mr. Patrick said he told Mr. Obama that he should respond to the criticism, and he shared language from his campaign with Mr. Obama’s speechwriters.

Mr. Patrick said he did not believe Mr. Obama should give him credit.

“Who knows who I am? The point is more important than whose argument it is,” said Mr. Patrick, who telephoned The New York Times at the request of the Obama campaign. “It’s a transcendent argument.”

David Axelrod, the chief strategist for Mr. Obama who also advised Mr. Patrick, said Sunday that Mr. Obama adapted the words from Mr. Patrick. Mr. Axelrod said that he did not write the words for either candidate.

“They often riff off one another. They share a world view,” Mr. Axelrod said. “Both of them are effective speakers whose words tend to get requoted and arguments tend to be embraced widely.”

The similarities from a passage of Mr. Obama’s speech on Saturday and in remarks that Mr. Patrick delivered on Oct. 15, 2006, were highlighted by a rival campaign that did not want to be identified. Clips of both speeches are archived on the Web site YouTube.com.

30. Thanks, I was looking for that graphic,
here's more:

Obama Echoes Deval Patrick...Again

"The charismatic, brilliant, inspiring black politician came to the stage to address the latest attack from his white female opponent."

"Her dismissive point, and I hear it a lot from her staff, is all I have to offer is words," he said. "Just words.
"'We holds these truths to be self-evident,'" he continued as the crowd began to cheer and applaud, "'that all men are created equal' -- just words. Just words."

The applause increased.

"'We have nothing to fear but fear itself,'" the pol said. "Just words. 'Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.' Just words,'" he said, switching effortlessly from our Founding Fathers to FDR to JFK.
And then, the piece de resistance: "'I have a dream' -- just words," he said.
Barack Obama rebutting Hillary Clinton circa 2008?

Nope. Deval Patrick, ultimately successful Massachusetts gubernatorial candidate, responding to then-Lt. Gov. Kerry Healey in October 2006.

http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalpunch/2008/02/obama-echoes-de.html

In the midst of his improbable run for office, Obama and his advisers have evidently studied Patrick's up-from-nowhere victory in Massachusetts and are borrowing themes, messages, and even specific lines for the presidential campaign.

http://www.boston.com/news/nation/articles/2007/04/16/patrick_obama_campaigns_share_language_of_hope/

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x4038668

Charges of plagerism severely damaged Joe Biden, I wonder what this will do to Obama.

Yeah he uses his ideas but ideas can not be copyrighted. It's like me writing a story about a spaceship and then someone else writing a story about a spaceship. You can't copyright the spaceship idea. You can copyright the whole story but you can't have an idea, throw it out there, and not expect others to share the idea. Unless, of course it's a bad idea.

This plagiarism crap is all nothing but spin. Those who believe it are buying into the repukes warped propaganda.

38. Desperation: "New Clinton economic message has echoes of Edwards"

New Clinton economic message has echoes of Edwards

By Caren Bohan Sun Feb 17, 2:05 PM ET

MILWAUKEE, Wisconsin (Reuters) - White House hopeful Hillary Clinton has a message for hairdressers in Wisconsin, postal workers in Ohio and autoworkers across the United States who are struggling financially: She cares.

The former first lady and New York senator is hoping blue collar workers will provide her with a crucial base of support as she tries to erode the lead her rival Barack Obama has opened in the tight race to become the Democratic nominee in the November presidential election.

Clinton is courting working-class voters with a new message of economic populism similar to the theme of John Edwards, the former North Carolina senator who dropped out of the Democratic race in January.

Edwards never gained enough momentum to be competitive with Obama and Clinton, but the New York and Illinois senators are trying to woo his followers, many of whom were passionate about his pledge to take on "corporate greed" and bring change to a government he said had sold out the middle class.

52. This is called collaboration
Have you ever looked into the construction of the Declaration of Independence, for example? And the way Jefferson lifted passages from other influential writers? This is not uncommon in political thought, especially with a group that (centered around Axelrod) that works closely together and shares many of the same resources.

Obama probably could have given an oral citation, but I'm not sure it's particularly important.

87. They say they talk often and throw ideas around
about how to respond to things, etc. That is collaboration. For what it's worth, I think that the collaboration is mostly between and among the speechwriters, not between Patrick and Obama, but I have no reason to disbelieve Patrick and Obama's assertions that they talk to each other frequently about philosophies, strategies, etc.

61. This is rich! Coming from a Hillary supporter!
Hillary's current campaign theme "Change We Can Believe In" was stolen
and ripped from the mouth of David Axelrod.

For those of you who didn't get to see Hillary's sham of a campaign, which
she ran in Iowa, for several weeks--let me brief you.

Not only did she get caught planting questions at two events, she was forced
to fire one of her Iowa Directors for sending out "Obama is a Muslim" emails.

When her impersonal preach-and-dash speeches didn't impress Iowans, she toured
Iowa with her best friends from grade school--in an attempt to convince us how
human she was. Hello? Don't get me started on her Hill-O-Copter publicity
stunt and how she gave away free coffee mugs if you filled out a Hillary pledge
card.

Given all of this, Hillary NEVER ONCE talked about "change". She was the
"experience" candidate with an "I'm inevitable" meme in tow. Change was not
in her moniker, until the night of the Iowa caucuses when she came in third,
behind Obama and Edwards.

She was suddenly and miraculously all about "change". It was hilarious
and it was so disingenuous.

Everything about Hillary's campaign, after Iowa, was co-opted from Obama's
and Edward's campaigns.

Hillary knows a winning strategy when she sees it. Too bad it's just a stolen
slogan for her.

105. Your point is? That Sen.Obama borrowed words from Patrick.....could
it be they have both been leveled with the same criticism, i.e. their words are cheap, and they respond alike because they believe alike? Again, today you think what Sen.Obama says is a headline and a few days ago your candidate said he uses cheap words. I guess we're going to have to agree to disagree on this one and talk about something important....for example, policy issues.

Everybody borrows and steals campaign speeches from one another.

137. As someone who actively volunteered for Deval Patrick but who
supported John Edwards until he dropped out, I've certainly noticed the striking similarities in Obama's and Patrick's rhetoric - while it doesn't me per se, I am troubled by the fact Obama couldn't be bothered to give proper attribition.

That's what this is all about the 2 seconds to say "My friend Gov. Deval Patrick had a great response which fits the circumstances I now find myself in....."

But he didn't

It literally takes 2 seconds.

I can't wait for tomorrow night and more good Obama news to plaster the board and push crap like this into oblivion.

152. This doesn't work. This seems anti-Hillary to me. What's your game?
It's not a logical display; it requires huge leaps, reads poorly, and seems forced. I love Hillary, even though I'm voting Obama; I'm not about to get involved in any of the back and forth, because it seems pointless. Let's Just Vote. But certain things I read and see make me think that Hillary's being fifth-columned, and this is one of them.

Like that 'Hillary And Me' video. I swear that's a Karl Rove production. Awful. Demeaning to a Great Woman. I cannot believe that's from her campaign, it's so badly done. And if it is from her campaign, then she's been invaded by saboteurs.

I think you're hurting her cause here, with weird, disjointed arguments like this. If you're not the fifth column, then you're not her friend. You make her side seem ignoble and awkward with this -- and she's not those things. It would be like an Obama supporter lashing out at Hillary for being a lizardlike robot or a cruel vixen or something -- and if you know of one, be effing suspicious. Rove's methods are viral and shameless; it's entirely possible that there are numerous Rovebots stirring up animosity in a perfectly scientific fashion on this board, daily. The GOP has millions of ISP's to work with. In fact, you could easily be the OP and ten other commenters, and this could be a crafted piece, and it sure as hell sounds like it to me.

Are you a fifth columnist? Because I love Hillary, and I can see that this does her ill.
