My brother and his wife, and her mother are switching parties
Edited on Sun Feb-17-08 02:14 PM by jhuth
to vote for Hillary Clinton in the Wisconsin primary.

Why?

Because they want McCain to win.

I will support whomever the Democratic nominee is, I don't dislike Hillary. I like Obama a lot more.

That being said.

I just finished a long long conversation with my mom about them playing dirty politics with their vote. I find this disgusting, that the right wing of my family would do this, and I wonder where they are getting this idea from, who is promoting that?

Mom, who has been "politically active" for 40 years is voting for Obama, along with my Dad and my Sister. She thinks that their vote switching is just political strategy, but to me this is just more vote manipulation that is almost voter fraud, if not fraudulent in intention.

I picture my Brother in line at the polls and someone asks him who he's voting for and why. He should be embarassed. Knowing him he would brag about what he was doing, being the over the top rightie that he can be sometimes.

Has anyone heard of any organized efforts from those on the right to do this? I get the feeling maybe Charlie Sykes or some of the other local right wing radio jerk offs in Milwaukee may be pushing Republicans to do this.

It seems rather desparate on their part, but according to mom, this sort of thing has happened a lot over the years in other elections. She said I would do the same thing if I wanted to take down a right wing candidate, and she believes (don't know where this comes from) Democrats are doing just that with Huckabee. I don't believe that for a minute. She is trying to be the family peacemaker.

Is this a common practice? Have the Democrats ever done this in the past?

And how do I deal with my Brother? I think I would probably go off on him about this if I called him right now, so I should just let it rest.

Thanks for listening, DU-ers.

2. I have heard Obama supporters get excited cuz Republicans are switching over to vote for Obama.
So, I don't think many Republicans are switching over to vote for Hillary to get McCain to win.

people with Bush bumper stickers asking for Dem ballots in GA.

Maybe they were genuine maybe not. I don't know.

Do you?

4. To start with
the media excluded the majority of our candidates in favor of an AA man/woman contest. Nobody else had a chance because it wasn't preordained. They were the only ones that got the press.
MSM/RW knew that they could count on the knuckledraggers to do the rest.
There is a good reason that the republicans settled their primary battles fast.
It was so they could concentrate on ruining our primary process.
They feel because of their race/gender that those were the easiest candidates for them to beat in a year where a Democrat was inevitable. republicans are the scum under the surface of the scum.
To embrace them in any discourse will be at our own peril.

37. True.
If anything, they (the Rethugs) are sacking us with Obama so that the Democrats can lose.

38. Make no mistake. Hillary will be a hard-sell candidate too.
Neither of them will be easy.
I can say that even though I have NEVER like Biden and still don't...Biden would have been the one to transcend it all...he could have won this hands down. He had the experience and the knowledge. Now, let me go take a shower after I said that...

5. I have voted repuke in primary.
In Michigan you can vote either Dem or puke in the primary. I have voted for the less likely puker in races where the Dem has been decided.

9. It is not fraud.
There is nothing illegal about it.
I suspect a lot of republicans have been voting for Obama because they hate Hillary, which they won't in a general election.

16. My dad, a lifelong Democrat did this years ago...
voting for the weakest Republican in the primary and then voting Democrat in the regular election. However, as a statistician, I think he finally came to the conclusion that it ended up devaluing his own vote. I don't know if you should let it rest, but I wonder if Maria Shriver and Arnold S. have political conversations at the dinner table or just avoid the subject.

30. Oh, It's More Common Than Most People Recognize...
I have a politically active buddy that has been a registered Republican for years. He's not a Republican mind you, he just votes in their primaries to mess with their vote, and then votes Democrat in the General. He's been doing this for about 30 years now.
