How is it that Obama is supposed to represent hope and positivity
While some of his supporters here are the exact opposite of that message?

If I didn't know anything about Barack Obama and came in here to find out more about him and his candidacy, and saw some of the stuff here, I'd run away from him as fast as I could.

2. My hunch is that a majority of Obama supporters on DU do not comprise
the majorities of votes Obama has won in multiple states' primaries and caucuses.

Many Democrats voting for Obama in those many states have never heard of you and me and the other posters here, or the site itself.

I'm not getting the connection.

7. Yet many of the grassroots--lifeblood--of the local parties
are being run out of politics by the same brand of brashness that you see here from the Obama supporters.
The ugliness does transcend the internet.

10. There may be a few instances of that, but they are not, in sum, going to
represent the difference between a Clinton win in Missouri or an Obama win in Missouri, or in Minnesota or Connecticut or Ohio or Texas, IMO.

We're a teensy little piece of the great mosaic.

15. I think all of the new supporters to the political process
is what is making it ugly. They have no decorum...only a sense of entitlement.
Conditioned perhaps from watching shows like Survivor and American Idol where it is always winner-take-all and win at all costs.
There is more of it going on out there than you think.
However...it won't translate into primary losses for Obama.
However, it might translate into general election losses.
That kind of behavior is repugnant and generally not tolerated well by Democrats.

16. Well...
Here we are. We sit here on DU and think this is the world. That the powers that be in the media and the Democratic Party log into Democratic Underground and parses what is said here with a fine tooth comb. That the world, in short, revolves around DU. You do have a point.

4. Both sides have been pretty nasty on DU.
Those that engage in mudslinging and being rude to other posters aren't representing their candidates very well.

Unfortunately, this has been going on for quite some time. Some people just don't care I guess. :-(

11. I was careful to use the word some in my post.
There are classy Obama people here. In fact, I would say most of them are.

But there are a group of Obama people here who deliberately go out of their way to be as nasty as possible. As you said, it's provoking for provoking's sake. There is no reason for it.

And I'll say that some of my compatriots are embarrassing. One was justifyably tombstoned last week. He was a little too...PROUD, shall we say?

I don't mean to paint with a broad brush here.

And maybe it would just be better for me to stay out of here for a while. Just hang out in the Lounge. I guess I don't have a real taste for the bloodsport of politics.

14. Well, I'veposted threads about his Poverty policies, his Telecom/Tech policies, his appeal
to moderates and indies so as to have a decided majority and hence a mandate.

I've tried to discuss his past accomplishments.

I've also had to counter innumerable threads started by Hillary supporters claiming he has no policies and is an empty suit.

You seem to think that Hillary supporters and her own fucked up campaign can say anything, throw out any race-baiting smear and we are supposed to just bend over?

44. Straight- Your post is one that really riles me and probably other
Hillary supporters. She has absolutely done no race-baiting smears and I am offended by these slurs being tossed around. You people are always throwing race into the equation. Race has nothing to do with it. I can't even imagine what you are referring to in regards to Hillary. There is no way any Dem. running for Pres. would ever do that. They want to unite and draw all people into their support base. There is absolutely no way Hillary or anyone would do that. On the other hand BO has done a lot of damage to the party by trying to use the race card.

26. You are completely correct, terrya, some would think that Obama supporters...
would take his lead on this 'change' bullshit, and change their shrieking tone of condescension, derision, division, and debasement. It is just such a tacky spectacle to watch Obama supporters ignore the hopes & dreams of their own candidate. Too many Obamaphiles don't even seem to be capable of the level of change he's referring to.

33. Sometimes a candidate attracts assholes
And if you estimate the asshole quotient (AQ) of a population at about 25% of the general population, you are bound to have some in every camp.
Good thing you are too smart to use your reactions to a random sample on a public political message board to determine your vote.

39. Obama's supporters are not Obama. You should listen to the man's words.
Carville, Penn, and (Bill) Clinton say some of the dumbest divisive things. And they are pretty much in Hillary's "inner circle." But I still don't believe half the things they say are indicative of her.

Same for "supporters of ____________." I agree with a comment above; some people are new to the political process. However it's easy to be excessively obnoxious or passionate on an anonymous message board. On the ground, canvassing neighborhoods, and at national HQ, the people on the Obama team have been some of the nicest, most generous, helpful people I have ever encountered. I've enjoyed some vigorous and interesting policy discussions with many.

They say they move past the partisan divisions, but then embrace the results of right-wing attacks -- as in their virulent Hillary-hate. It's very bizarre indeed.

With that sort of cracked foundation in thought, I believe the whole structure is flawed -- and therefore likely doomed.

not that all the posters who get emotional, (including me) are trolls. just that they are creating an atmosphere of contention. there is a lot of frustration because so much of what they post is not only bull, but through the looking glass nuts.
people really believe in obama. i am one of them. i am one of them because i have seen him up close. i know who supports him here. i know what kind of person he is.
