A free media ride for Obama? Let's put the shoe on the other foot
Edited on Sun Feb-17-08 10:51 AM by BeyondGeography
Obama ran out of money in late January and had to loan himself $5 million.

Obama's ex-campaign manager was watching soap operas while the till was running dry.

Obama told everyone the race would be over by Feb. 5.

Obama had no organzational game plan post-Feb. 5.

Obama lost the first eight races after Feb. 5.

Obama now trails in pledged delegates and the combined popular vote from every contested race.

Obama's surrogates are now telling the media his opponent's victories are irrelevant and that the nomination will be decided at the convention by party insiders.

Obama trails in every general election poll vs. John McCain. His opponent fares much better in all of them.

Obama has the highest unfavorable ratings of the three remaining candidates.

Obama trails among men by 57-39 and is failing to attract any support among independents and moderate Republicans in the GE polls.

Were this true, what would the media and Hillary's surrogates be screaming from the top of every electronic mountain-top in creation:

Get the fuck out of the race, Obama! Make way for Her Majesty! Who are you kidding?

Instead, we are treated to non-stop complaints by Hillary supporters of media bias for Obama and how tough they have been on poor Hillary.

It's laughable.

1. And playing the victim, and disingenuous...
She began the race with an enormous psychological advantage, the support of major establishment figures in the party, the most amount of money, supposedly the best-organized team, the benefits that come with being married to a former President and having had the opportunity to intermingle with world leaders for more than a decade, etc. etc.

9. The media gave her 18 months
of free air positioning her as the presumptive winner.

If the media has done anything to hurt her, that would be it. It apparently led the campaign to believe that themselves.

There was never any factual basis for that. From the start, her negatives were too high give her a realistic chance of beating a Republican. And the head-to-head polls never showed her doing better than the other Dem contenders in a significant way. She often came out a little ahead, but she was operating with 100% name recognition. Once you account for that, there was no basis in any of the polls for front-runner status.

What has happened now is that there is a candidate who comes to the race without Hillary's considerable baggage, and he's doing well. No surprise that the press jumps to that story. It is a lot more interesting.

2. the media spin helped to create those problems.
And you are a perfect example of it. You continue to repeat the media propaganda as if it is true.

4. The media began slamming Clinton long before
The media Hillary bashing started far in advance of her campaign having problems. Don't you recall the contrast in coverage of the Clinton and Obama announcements of their respective candidacies?

Barak was touted as the new "Abraham Lincoln" on the Capitol steps in Springfield. It was all oohs and aahs from day one.

Hillary was roundly denounced because she sat on a "flowered couch" and made her announcement on the Internet. Chris Matthews could hardly contain his disgust.

And it has never stopped.

5. As an Obama supporter, I disagree with your characterization
of early media treatment of Obama. I don't think they thought he was a threat to Clinton so I think he had trouble getting coverage. Everyone assumed the "other" choice would be Edwards.

I will agree with you though that the media assualted Clinton's campaign very early on. She was treated VERY unfairly. I do think her mis-steps in the campaign are serious and should be fair game. I used to hate the way Matthew's especailly reported on her prior to the rise of Obama.

8. I understand from the other thread, that free ride
includes programs devoted to how Hillary has been mistreated and the media is helping Obama. When did we all head down the rabbit hole?
