Clinton Recalls Hunting With Her Father As A Youth - Reuters
<snip>

KENOSHA, Wisconsin (Reuters) - Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton revealed something about herself on Saturday that she acknowledged might surprise many people: she knows how to hunt.

Campaigning ahead of Tuesday's Democratic nominating vote in Wisconsin, a state with a strong tradition of hunting and where many voters strongly support gun ownership rights, Clinton said she firmly backed the right to bear arms.

"You know, you may not believe it but I've actually gone hunting," Clinton, 60, said at a question-and-answer session with voters at a crammed bratwurst restaurant in Kenosha.

"My father taught me to shoot 100 years ago," she said jokingly.

The topic came up when one voter asked Clinton what she would do to prevent incidents such as the shooting spree at Northern Illinois University on Thursday in which a man entered a lecture hall and killed five students and himself.

And...

Later, a reporter who had followed her career for 2 1/2 years and was not aware of her hunting experience pressed Clinton on whether she had ever shot anything.

"Yes, Mike, I have," she told the reporter, Mike McAuliff of the New York Daily News. Clinton said she had shot a duck as well as "a lot of tin cans and a lot of targets and some skeet."

Asked about this, Mitt Romney replied: "What, no varmints???"

33. As far as I know she has never mentioned this before
Then she mentioned it in a state that is mostly rural.

She grew up in Park Ridge, IL. Park Ridge is a close-in suburb to Chicago. They have small lots by suburban standards. There is no way to safely fire a rifle outside there. So her father (WWII generation and by all accounts a man of his time) took his daughter to the country (unknown where this rural area is) and taught her to shoot.

It smells. Occam's Razor says it is bullshit.

7. At least Kerry staged a photo-op. Let's see her shoot, if she's a hunter.
Let's see. Hillary has:

-Moved to a state she never lived in to run for office

-Lost Iowa after she was expected to win

-Financed her campaign with her own money

-Pretended to be a hunter

Sounds like the Mitt Romney road to success right there!

53. you don't seem to understand that we are a generation who will simply not be talked down to
i speak for a younger generation that has been bombarded with advertisements since our youth. we know how to smell authenticity, and we reject corporate polish.

corporations have spent huge, monsterous dollars to try to figure out how to reach generation y, because we don't respond to the traditional media. we are skeptics, and sophisticated in matters of media.

hillary's campain has failed to realize this trend, and has run a campaign very much rooted in the 1990s.

In our world, you'll hear this a lot.

"Screenshot or it didn't happen"

In other words, where's the proof? Lack of proof, of this hunting expedition, is testament to its fabrication. If you treat me with disrespect by lying to me or pandering, I will smack you back. And the internet is ripe with smacks against Hillary. Go figure.

37. Yep, and if Hillary wanted mileage out of this, she'd stage a photo-op.
I imagine a lot of gun owners heads' would explode if they saw video of Hillary using a gun properly.

Those of us who have used guns can generally tell whether someone is knowledgeable about guns or just bullshitting. Kerry's the former, Clinton's the latter.

43. My Black Lab is @ my feet right now.
I worked for Kerry in 2004 in Ohio and met people who had hunted w/ him
in MA. Nothing phony about it.

I did not go out the last year or so but I still consider myself a hunter.
Deer mostly but a little upland game too. Remington 820 pump
20 gauge w/ a slug barrel for deer.

I really think Hillary would be great for the party as majority leader in the
senate .... her knowledge of the law and the rules would make her a real
force to get things done. But in the land of the hunters for Hillary to now
talk about her "red neck" roots ... please.

"She knows how to hunt", yeah sure.

I'd have a lot more respect for her if she just said "I tried it once when I was a kid but it was so fuckin boring I never wanted to do it again."

That's what my daughter said (well not exactly those words) when I took her out to shoot doves when she was about ten. And I never took her again. But I guess as a Dem and a woman Hillary has to prove to all the voters in Jesusland that she likes to kill things as much as any dude.

Yeah I couldn't help comparing the response with Romney myself.
