Where did all you Hillary supporters come from?
I remember back when DU had the fun run that the majority here are liberals who supported Kucinich. Have you people been hiding out in other parts of the message board?

I would never have imagined seeing this much support here for the most conservative and corporate candidate. And a member of the DLC, no less. I thought most people loathed Hillary Clinton on this site since most people here loathe the DLC.

30. I learned a couple of weeks ago that it doesn't pay to be
quiet, littlebit. I posted a comment on a post, a comment that someone didn't like and he gave me a snarky "Welcome to DU" as if I'd hopped over here from the Free Republic. In this case, I was judged by the number of my comments. But those few comments stretched over four years -- he or she assumed I'd just come aboard. There are people here, unfortunately, who like to parade their witty, sarcastic comments rather than post anything substantive. A quick snark and then, quick! post it up on the board! It's no wonder there are so many odd-ball spellings and upside-down terms on this board.

28. You found the elusive issue on which Obama disagrees with the DLC?
Can you share it with the world because no one has seen it from you or anyone else?

Obama is not for universal health care. He is more conservative on that vital issue. On what issues is he more liberal?

He isn't a corporatist even though he has gotten more corporate dough than Giuliani, Romney, and McCain as I proved and you ignored?

You are the epitome of a kool aid drinker. You ignore any evidence that debunks your kool aid beliefs, like your debunked bs about Obama winning Latinos from yesterday.

34. Sure, you keep believing that
Anyone who doesn't support Obama is an enemy. And people wonder why some people consider the Obama people cultists.

Because someone doesn't agree with you doesn't make them a conservative plant.

Unbelievable.

I don't think Clinton and Obama are far enough apart on the issues for this type of divide. I don't plan on voting for either of them, but I'm sick to death of the attacks on Clinton.

136. the basic problem is that too many DU posts
are very low in substance and very high in mean-spiritedness. For example, is there really any point to posts 33, 40, 42, 43, 48, 50, 52, 53 and 120. Just a crowd of Hillary supporters chiming in to basically say "FU2".

What is puzzling to me is how fast the Obama hate seems to have grown. I can understand that Hillary supporters might like her better than Obama, but it's puzzling to see that so many of them seem to detest Obama. It's a full grown tree of hate that sprang up in a few months to a Redwood tree size.

Of course, I have a wall of hatred against Hillary that began in 1992 against Bill. Every time he betrayed progressives in his eight years added another brick to the wall. Since running for the Senate in New York, Hillary has added to that wall with her stance on the Iraq war and then with her campaign.

Troubling too, that the hatred of Obama seems to spill onto Obama supporters as well. I know there are many Obama supporters doing the same thing. It's hard for me to tell who started the fire though with so many DUers walking around with flamethrowers ready to post another "fu$% off" post against another DUer. I feel like a father driving a car. At this point, I don't really care who started it. Both of you can knock it the fu$% off!

Not you, personally, just all the haters posting "FU" posts, although your own post was a broadside against Obama supporters.

Frightening they think they can convert us to Obama's side by using Bush tactics, isn't it. That's just what we need - four years dividing the party then handing the White House back to the republicans because of it. No good.

Even though I don't plan on voting for her.

Former Edwards supporter, now defender against scurrilous charges against Senator Clinton from the rabid "unity" of the Obama supporters.

I'm still voting Edwards but am sick to death of the attacks on Senator Clinton and will not sit idly by while she is attacked by liars and Obama supporters.

The more she is attacked the closer I come to voting for her.

I will never, ever, ever, ever vote Obama after the so-called unity candidate used the unity of African American Evangelicals to throw LGBTQ under the bus and start his "momentum." Funny how that happened right after his preaching and his campaign sponsored gospel ex-gay tour of AA Evangelical churches in South Carolina. Guess he spoke their language. Hey, "Queers are EVIL" worked for the GOP, why not the unity candidate?

37. Where did I come from?
I was an Edwards supporter...sort of reluctantly, but I liked his populist message. Hillary was my second choice.

At the beginning of the primary season, I watched and listened to Obama carefully. I read articles about him. I read parts of his book. And I came to the conclusion that he is as fake as george bush.

So, when Edwards dropped out I realized that Hillary was the person I really want to see as president. Her healthcare program is by far superior to Obama's and her green collar jobs plan is excellent.

I don't do groupie...not now, not ever. I find Obama's supporters to be irrational and an embarrassment to the Democratic party.

65. Some of us remember what the 90s were actually like
I came of age (politically) in the 90s. I saw repeated bullshit attacks on a president, who with all his faults, was a far superior choice to the Rethuglican alternative of the day.

Some of us (and I am not even 30 go figure) remember the "Gingrich revolution". Some of us remember Ken Starr/the Blue Dress-the complete bullshit that was the "opposition politics" of the 90s.
The no-substance-all-fluff garbage that passes for political discourse these days has its roots in the Gingrich Revolution of the 90s.

Most importantly, despite the more substantive accusations leveled at the Clintons for Nafta/Doma etc. (and I disagreed with many, many of Bill's policies myself), I remember that he was working with a lousy Republican congress. He was working under circumstances that would have daunted the most progressive Dem you can find anywhere. In that climate, he still managed to accomplish a lot (look at some of the environmental legislation he and Gore managed to get passed in that climate).

When I see the baseless, visceral hatred leveled at Hillary from the right and the left, I get "polarized" if you will toward the people-i.e. the Clintons- who at least have a record of standing up to the right wing as best as could be done under the circumstances.

Yes, I know-as a former Kucinich-turned-Edwards-turned Clinton supporter, I know all of the issues people on the more leftist wing of the party have with Clinton. I still think, they have often done the best they could do under the circumstances. More importantly, I don't see Obama being any different than Clinton on substantive issues necessarily.

I see no reason to support Obama over Clinton. I strongly dislike the McClurkin/Fundie part of his base-they exist and there is no denying it.
I dislike the "post-partisanship" rhetoric.
If he is the Dem nominee, I will vote for him. But my first choice at this point is the candidate who at least has a long history of standing up to the RW (no I am sorry-nothing will convince there is a secret Bush-Clinton partnership no matter how many pics you post of Hillary smiling at or shaking hands with Bush). And unlike the Obama supporters, I don't think my candidate is perfect-far, far from it. But, at the end of the day I realize NO politician is or ever will be-they are politicians get it? They are trying to get your vote. They will say or do anything for it mostly. I am sure JFK was a mere mortal with lots of faults. Some of us find this the most nauseating thing about the Obama campaign's desire for a perfect "hero".

66. I used to post a lot, then started lurking, and became visible due to Hillary bashing.
My first choice was Dodd because he was so vocal and active about defending the Constitution. When he dropped out, I wavered between Edwards and Clinton. I just figured the Clinton supporters needed someone else in the trenches with them, so when Edwards dropped out, I decided to fully support Hillary.

I'm a pragmatist by nature, and preacher-style rhetoric doesn't sway me. In fact, it repels me. Since there is little difference policy-wise between the two candidates, and because I believe Obama is more of a manufactured candidate than Hillary, I choose her.

By the way, there's nothing wrong in agreeing with certain conservative positions if it's realistic, tempered conservatism and not the bonkers type introduced by Reagan and made a caricature of by bush. I know a lot of conservatives with whom I get along quite well. They recognize bush for what he is.

89. Allow me to say something in defense of where these Clintonians came from.
Edited on Sat Feb-16-08 06:33 PM by TexasObserver
They likely came from the same place I did - lurkers who for one reason or another finally decided to join and jump in. Isn't it to be expected that a site that is about Democratic politics will draw the most new members when the primary season starts?

I'll tell my story, and in doing so, will probably be telling the story that applies to many new posters, all of whom universally resent the constant arrogance and accusations of those here who have anywhere from 5 weeks to 5 years as a DU member.

We aren't campaign operatives. We aren't from some Republican site. We aren't paid to post. We are Democrats who decided to post here, probably because this is what the whole thing is all about. It's not just election year, it's presidential election year, and we're probably going to finally get rid of the Bush madness and get a Democrat in the White House. I'm not new to the Democratic party. I can assure all who read that I have the bona fides to approach any Democratic politician in the country, and get an introduction if I need or want one.

A year ago, when it looked to be a three person race among Edwards, Clinton and Obama, I checked out Kos and checked out DU. I found Kos not to be of my liking. It took a while, but I finally got accustomed to the thread format here, and found it easy to navigate. I never read any of the boards except GD and GDP. I mainly read GD, in fact, as there was considerable repetition.

Then several things happened. DU started with those ads that you only see if you're not a member. They were big, annoying, and intrusive. Also, all the primary threads were mandated to the GDP board, so that created this massive crush of posters and topics, and suddenly GDP was the board that would disappear a new thread in 30 minutes. With the beginning of the primaries, madness here ensued.

It became impossible for a lurker to put up with it, not having Hide Thread or Ignore. Every time I opened the GDP, I saw threads by some guy who loves Lee Greenwood, apparently. I saw a host of such virulent spam kings and queens, flooding the board with disgusting things. MODS and ADMINS clearly could not stop it all because of traffic, and said to members USE YOUR IGNORE AND HIDE THREAD.

About the same time, I had a medical problem occur that has confined me to home and limited my ability to even use the telephone. I can watch the news, I can read online, and I can type my thoughts on politics, which I have loved since 1960. I can't work on most of normal work right now, so why shouldn't I post here 12 hours a day while I watch political coverage on TV?

There are probably some real ringers here, but most of the posters here, even the most outrageous ones, are just people unleashing whatever they have inside them. I swore I wasn't going to get dragged into the mire with those who consistently try to insult new posters, drag them into fight, and then try to get them banned. But it's hard to ignore the instant and harsh personal attacks so many of them employ. I decided it's best to IGNORE anyone who is looking for a fight. Anyone who starts in with the newbie nonsense, the accusations that I'm some paid operative, or some R flunkie, or who prattles about my post count and what that means to them - all get dumped in the grease pit immediately. I can't read all the posts anyway, so why read the people who have nothing to say?

Thanks for reading, if you have.

99. I Have... And It Was Great !!!
I've been here for a long time, and stayed totally in GD until we got pushed over here.

Ah well...

And I think you speak eloquently for many here. I think the ringers are at an absolute minimum, and I believe there's not only a whole lot of pent up anger and frustration, but also a whole lot of hopes and fears riding on this election.

The thick skin needed for this board, may not be enough in the months to come I fear.

We're going to have an end to the primary run, and we will have a nominee. The deeper the wounds we have now, the longer it takes to heal them. Paper cuts we can survive. Cuts to bone are harder to overcome.

I think it's safe to say that Hillary gained more supporters, just as Obama did, when everyone dropped out.

I am a supporter of neither. I don't consider either of them to be "liberal," but if I were looking for the most liberal of the two, it would have to be HRC. The DLC candidate.

That's probably why she's able to pull some support here at DU, where the majority didn't support EITHER of the two left.

Hell, if I'd had any idea I could get PAID for this stuff I'd have fallen into a different camp! Trust me to pick the one that expects me to give it away!

Guys, this is a Primary. It is how a party starts to define its platform and it can sometimes be about as much fun as Thanksgiving with your drunk Uncle Asswipe (Pronounced As-vee-pay.) It is, however, sorta required attendance if you want to claim to be a Parisian. There is a lot of crap flying round right now (and yes--I do it too) but when this is over we all need to rally round whoever the nominee is. We must hang together because we will most certainly hang separately (Franklin really did say that, according to the history books, and by golly he's still valid.)

I just don't have the stomach to be pissed off at most of you just because we maybe didn't vote the same way in a Primary. I dunno how may of your realize it, but I have even worked on the opposing Primary campaign against a candidate worked by my husband and we are still married. Trust me on this--a Primary is NOT a reason to kill each other.

Carry on.

Since Obama had disappointed me as my Senator, by failing to fulfill the hope and change he had presented as a Senate candidate, I was left with Clinton. "Hope for Change" is a hard meme to overcome for folks beaten down by a fascist government.

Therein...is the worry...

I don't know which one...I'm torn. My candidates are gone. In the wilderness. But, on substance...I know her better that the "unknown." And know it will take Obama (no matter how well-intentioned he is) too long to "get up to speed" to deal with what the Bushies have left us and what they will DO if he wins. Indeed what they will do if Clinton II comes in. But, the Bushies want us to be sooooo AFRAID...we will be cowered... They will do whatever it takes....... Someone strong enough who knows what they are dealing with is what we want. I don't know that Clinton II won't be "embedded" with Bushies...nor, do I know that Obama I won't be the same....

I do feel Kucinich wouldn't have been...maybe not Edwards, either. And, Gore seemed to have "SPLIT" from all of it. But those aren't choices I have. And, I can't vote until May.

Very few spoke for Hillary at first. I think Hillary supporters are less fanatical and therefore quieter than the supporters of other candidates.

The attacks on Hillary were frequent and became too much to stand. When a few started fighting back others joined in. There was a definite moment when it all changed.

Hillary supporters are still in the minority but some are very productive. That's great because Hillary is a Democrat and a good liberal and it was sickening to see this wonderful site turned into a hate Hillary billboard.

I defended the Clintons from wingnuts on AOL back in the 90s. I was saddened to see some of the same type of attacks here coming from the left. I was a Dodd supporter back when he was still in the race but I've defended Hillary here from unfair attacks. Its gotten to be a habit.

There was no agreement not to be on the ballot in Michigan. There was an agreement not to campaign there, though, and only one candidate broke that pledge - Dennis Kucinich.

The only pledge she signed regarding Florida was not to campaign there or run ads there. She kept to that pledge. Obama didn't.

But is that really your excuse for breaking the rules? That Hillary does it? What are you, 5?

201. So like Obama and his Reagan love
is not indicative of a corporate owned candidate as well?

I see tweedle dee and tweedle dum actually between the two

I will support whoever wins

but until then

I'll just sit back and watch my party eat each other alive

sad, pathetic and all bullshit in my opinion

202. I voted in MO for Clinton
I was a Kucinich supporter and had planned on voting for Edwards but he dropped out before Super Tuesday. I had a difficult time deciding who to support because they are both good choices. But I ended up a Hillary voter because I am uncomfortable with all the bipartisan love the Oboma camp has. It seems whenever Dems join with Repubs, we get the sticky end of the stick.

In the primary IMO it should be Democrats the decide our candidate not Republicans and Independents. If they want to become Dems than it is different otherwise they should stay out.

Bottom line I don't trust Republicans. I think Clinton could defeat them. I'm not sure about Oboma. If he is our candidate I will support him. I hope that whomever is elected will fight the Repubs and change the path we are on.

205. Well, I was born in Nashville, but I've lived in Alabama
most of my life. That is what you mean, isn't it?

I just think there are some *very time flexible* passionate Hillary supporters who post tons and are here a lot.

Of course, when more people were running Hillary polled even less support on DU.
