Why doesn't Huckabee just come out and say it?
"I am staying in this race, until the convention, because John McCain is old and may die, and I want to be well positioned in that case."

Chuck Norris hinted at it.

Novak wonders about a stroke or a scandal.

Why the pretense, Mike?!

1. He's jockeying for VP
His best chance to become president is to ride on McCain's coattails, and have McCain die in office. There is absolutely no way that he would win if he is at the top of a ticket. By staying in and gathering more delegates, he can make the argument that he should be selected as VP.

2. Huckabee
I don't think, even if McCain got ill or died, that just because Huck is still "in the race" that he'd be the winner. He still doesn't have the #s -- so it would go into the convention for old-time conventioneering.

Huck wouldn't win -- hard to say who would -- could be "a man on a horse", someone who hasn't even participated in the primaries.

6. I would not be so glib about
dismissing Huckabee or his chances of getting the nomination or of winning the general election. After the past 7 nightmarish years of seeing things I never thought I'd see, I rule out nothing.

3. LOL
hadn't considered that. Might be why Mittens "suspended" his campaign...

4. A Heartbeat Away from the Presidency
is where he wants to be. Then he gets to be President when the old geezer kicks the bucket.

5. Kills me how Novak just went ahead and put it out there.
Novak is a shameless little noxious weasel, and he cracks me up. :-)

8. He's waiting for a "macaca moment"
Huckabee actually said that.

10. I liked Bill Maher's explanation...
..."He's a preacher. As long as they keep sending him money, he'll keep going."

11. It's all of the above. Candidate in waiting in case McCain falls ill or worse. The spotlight.
How tough is it for a guy with a modest financial statement and political future to love having Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert, and Conan O'Brien fighting over him?

He's a lock now for the lecture circuit, and will make big bucks there.

He's got a lot of reasons to keep running, not the least of which is McCain's health. I've noticed the physical things which imply the possibility of a mild stroke recently.
