Barack Obama will bring a long needed sense of family back to the the Whitehouse
As the parents of two little girls, Barack's an Michelle's love for their children are ever evident. As is Barack's and Michelle's love for each other.

What we have here is a FIRST FAMILY.

I pointed out that the population takes on the personality of the President (in this case law enforcement out of control, abuse of even petty authority, cronyism, self-engrandizement) this First Family will bring America back to it's foundation of family. Loving parents involved with their child's life.

Simply putting this family in the Whitehouse will improve education.

25. Here's the Clinton campaign philosophy as embodied by her more rabid supporters.
Edited on Sat Feb-16-08 10:51 AM by Divernan
Though it is increasingly unlikely, Clinton may still have a path to the nomination -- and what a path it is. She merely has to puncture the balloon of Democratic idealism; sully the character of a good man; feed racial tensions within her party; then eke out a win with the support of unelected superdelegates, thwarting the hopes of millions of new voters who would see an inspiring young man defeated by backroom arm-twisting and arcane party rules. Unlikely -- but it would be a fitting contribution to the Clinton legacy of monumental selfishness.

As to the OP, you make an excellent point. It will be a breath of fresh air and a fine role model to American parents to have a loving family in the White House again.

5. I admire your optimism,
but there is more to improving education than moving one family out of a big white house and moving another family into the house.

I, for example, have always treated my family members well, no matter who lived in the big, white house.

Education is an economic issue. Will we spend more money on weapons, or more money for teachers?

9. Great observation!
Actually, I'm amazed I haven't heard/seen anyone else make this comment (I'm new to this site but not to blogging). When we think of "family values", there's nothing quite like looking at a family that appears to embody them. Both Barack and Michelle seem very grounded, and their concern about disrupting their children's lives is thoughtful (reflecting thought). I hadn't realized until the other day that the Obamas did not just pack up the kids and move them to Washington.

Ca. 1962 there was a book that came out with letters from kids, written to President Kennedy and his answers. Does anyone else remember this?

I take offense to your implication that I'm NOT "a feminist."

No one is more pro-women's rights than myself. HRC can thank her husband's "Lee Atwater impersonation" for the massive abandonment of the Black electorate from The Clintons' camp. HRC is still doing "OK" for WOMEN as a group but Obama is making inroads.

However, make no mistake that WOMEN, as a voting electorate, are far from one-dimensional.

It's a family value that children don't go to bed hungry.

It's a family value that a living wage be paid.

It's a family value that everyone have health insurance.

I don't think it's fair to insinuate this poster is anything like a freeper.

34. I think Sen. Clinton would be there alone most of the tme.
Chelsea Clinton is an extremely accomplished and successful young woman whose career is centered in Manhattan. Bill Clinton will most likely continue to travel the world as he has for the past years, pursuing his interests. Unless he sticks in DC and attends all the Cabinet meetins - which is a bizarre scenario and/or micromanages policy decisions. With him around, whoever would have been Sen. Clinton's vice-president will be relegated to ceremonial functions.

44. It's not that single people are less worthy - and it is not simply sentimental
Since ca. 1994 the Republicans have been touting "family values" as if only they had them. No one should vote for Obama because he has young kids, but the image of a functional family in the WH is one we have not had in a decade (no matter how well Chelsea was raised, no one would claim that the Clintons' family life was functional in conventional terms). If we discount the Clintons, we have to go back to Amy Carter (or have I forgotten someone?)--that's 30 years.

The image of a young, healthy family is great for promoting a new start for the country.

IMHO...

50. You know, before Monica, the Clintons were a "First Family" and they
got bashed anyway. Remember the unkind things that were said about Hillary's hips, and Chelsea's looks. This was all before anything came out about Monica. There is just a huge double standard when it comes to the Clintons, always has been. The fact that Hillary kept her family together through the worst of time does not earn her any credit from the "family values" folks and most so-called liberals, progressives, and feminists feel she should have walked away from Bill. For keeping her family together through what must have been a very, very painful time, she is accused of doing it just for political reasons. Yet many say, that she should have unloaded Bills baggage and walked away and she would have been in much better political shape now (I tend to believe that she would have been accused of leaving Bill for political reasons.) There just is no win for either Hilalry or Bill, even after decades of their public service.

63. POT MEET KETTLE (I read your text---rude at best)

47. What a bunch of hateful motherfuckers you all are.

I for one thought it was pretty cool that Mr Obama
took Valentines day off to spend with his family.

I also think it would be nice to see someone in the whitehouse who actually loves their spouse and isnt in it just for the power.
I'm sure the Clintons love each other, they just dont show it very well.

49. This old cynic wants to see it your way and holds out at least some hope.

Realistically, though, this is probably a "Camelot-ized" version of life today. Bashing presidents and their families has been a national past-time for many years and is ever harsher from many quarters. At best, the Obamas might have a longer "honeymoon" and that's about it. Too bad, really.

69. Oh the shame I feel
Yup she kept her family together during haaaard times. All by lonesome of course.

OR she made a political decision and stayed with her cheating husband in order to become president.

And Chelsea? Chelsea who? last time I saw her on TV she was a little girl. Now all of a sudden she's all over the place. Remember when it wasnt ok to talk about her? Now all you guys have is Chelsea.

if the president has kids.

This sounds like something we would hear on the 700 Club.

60. I'm not voting for "family values" reasons until my family is legitamized
in this country. That means full marriage equality, no extra restrictions on adoption by GLBT Americans, and GLBT Americans being allowed the same immigration benefits and married straight people.

73. And show that Democrats - "Focus on the Family" too...
And that WE are the party of "Values."

Not the right wing religious nut cases.

We are the party that is "strong on defense and Security" - the rethugs were "chicken shit" to fishish the job in Afghanistan.

It's important to win the playing field and define the terms of this debate.

Excellent post!

77. Bite your tongue
This is fast becoming freeperland. A family is a man, a woman and a passel of children. None of that same-sex marriage, childless marriage or single person stuff.
