Clintonian smears... the real TRUTH about Obama's SS plan.
I know there is a lot of argument about the SS problem. I know there are one or two haters here who insist that SS is anything but perfect means you are quoting right wing talking points. So Regardless of how SS is being bankrupt...the point is that it will be bankrupt by 2041 or whenever Clinton said... most are in agreement that. That being said here is were the sludge comes in.

Clinton has long been using flyers (first in NH) to spread a myth about Obama's plan. I am quoting her mailer "A plan with a trillion dollar tax increase on hard-working American families"

http://www.politico.com/blogs/bensmith/0108/A_tax_attack.html

The problem with this is that it is misleading. One of Obama's solutions for SS is to "possibly" raise the cap. (which currently rests between 97,000 -100,000 depending on who you ask around this place. Many have argued that a large 5+ member family could struggle even with 100,000+ dollars of income. (For the sake of this post...we will say sure{ever seen what a house costs in CA} )

The Clinton and subsequently the Clinton...uhh.. supporters :7 ...yah..supporters... are claiming outrage over the "hard-working american's that will get pummeled by this tax increase. But they are leaving out the important part. I am going to put this in nice bold for everyone.

OBAMA HAS BEEN PROPOSING A {{{{{ DONUT }}}}} TO SKIP THOSE BETWEEN

Obama's proposal could include a gap or "donut hole" to shield middle-income earners from higher payroll taxes, he said.

http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2007/11/11/obama-i-deserve-a-tax-increase/

he said he would consider raising the cap on the Social Security tax - currently imposed on earnings up to $97,500 - or creating a so-called donut hole that would reinstate the tax once income hits a certain level, as Democratic presidential hopeful John Edwards has proposed.

http://www.boston.com/news/nation/articles/2007/10/28/obama_proposes_increasing_social_security_tax_on_wealthy/

Hell, Edwards had the exact same plan. So this "Trillion dollar tax increase"(Where did the Clinton Campaign get that number anyway?) will not be on the middle class AT ALL. "hard working americans" is of course there for people to interpret as the middle class and poor.

Let's stop the LIES. Join with Obama's and Edwards's SS plan. Or at least stop the Lying. Call it out when you see it.

3. at the town hall meeting today he answered a SS question
It's just like you were saying. And he did mention that Hillary's "trillions" number is just made up by taking some long span of years and adding them all up--in other words, it's fabricated.

All of the answers to questions posed today were thoughtful and very well explained. No hype, no false claims, no exaggerations. He's done his homework. Kind of puts the lie to all of these "he has no plans?" posts.

The Clintons are using the Republican Playbook and it's disgusting.
Every sleazy move we see from Republicans against Democrats, we are seeing the Clintons use against Obama. If all you've got is negative, you don't have a winning campaign.

6. I don't think its fair that people earning less than 97500 have
to pay SS on their entire earnings while people making more don't.

Frankly, I don't have confidence that I will get anything from SS so to me it is just a tax. But I don't mind paying it because both my parents are on ss.

8. I don't know what your talking about with fliers
sent out by the Clinton campaign. However, Social Security is an issue I'm concerned with.

My question was if Obama was raising the cap on FICA from $100,000 to whatever it will be, will that also reflect an increase in social security benefits payout according to how much you pay in or Will Social Security be capped as well.

11. Your post and premise are false. The income tax payers owe SS two and a half trillion.
Increasing the pool of SS funds merely gives the feds more money to borrow to subsidize those income tax tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans.

Obama's plan is straight from Reagan's playbook, according to Thom Hartmann:
"Regan to cover his tax cuts doubled the tax paid only by people earning less than $40,000/year (FICA), and then began borrowing from the huge surplus this new tax was accumulating in the Social Security Trust Fund.
http://skeptically.org/wto/id19.html

So today, they are making $100,00 per year. It works the same way. The mulimillionaires get subsidized by the paycheck people.

13. Obama's plan is to make the paycheck people subsidize the wealthiest income tax payers.
The wealthiest income tax payers are NOT paycheck people. You are naive if you think it.

Obama's plan is Reagan's plan.
