McCain for VP? Hell No! Why?
I know this issue is all but dead, but the mentality that we need to add a Republican to the ticket is ridiculous. What kind of defeatist, wuss crap is this?

I mean, McCain apears to be a decent guy. But he's a friggin' Republican for Christ's sake--and a pretty damn conservative one at that

Jeez! Weak stuff.

IMHO

1. agreed!!!
this election is too important!

We need Dems with backbones who will fight back, not DLC-types who want to give in to the Republicans and wear pink tutus!

And definitely not republicans, even ones with integrity like McCain.

3. He looks like a moderate to people, but look what he did...
Edited on Thu Mar-11-04 08:05 PM by LoZoccolo
...when it was time for the Republican party to put something McCarthyist up:

http://www.cnn.com/2003/ALLPOLITICS/11/23/elec04.prez.democrats.gop.ad/

And by McCarthyist I not only mean making accusations, but making non-specific accusations that attempt to cause general paranoia but cannot be argued with as easily simply because they don't name names! If they were to accuse specific people of "attacking the president...", those people could step up and qualify their position as being nowhere near what they would be accused of...this general attack doesn't invite that kind of refutation. It's like Joe McCarthy saying he had this list and not releasing it fully - it just causes general paranoia, and no one can refute it easily because no one in specific gets accused.

4. It's just another "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" situation.
I'd like to think that Democrats were brighter than this, but, apparently, not. This philosophy has caused most of our foreign policy problems. Can't we just THINK from time to time??

5. That has to be
one of the lamest ideas I've ever heard - McCain for VP. He's a Republican! Assuming such a ticket could even win, one bullet hands the WH right back to the Republicans.

6. Don't worry...
they won't have McCain be VP.
this is just a trick to move the party just another step more towards the right.
they want to convince you all with the ABB philosophy that the party must move more right, right, righ in order to win. (And that winning is well worth sacrificing some of those core Democratic principles).
Now that everyone's completely discouraged, yet determined by ABB unity -- they can probably pull a lot of stuff -- like having a more pro-war stance and putting in a nice, republican-lite DLC type like Lieberman (but no one will complain because they are all relieved about it NOT being McCain).

8. And yet
We have Pretendocrats like a certain half-assed authoroid who want to claim it would be a good thing. These people are not looking out for us, they are only looking out for their own power.

11. I think some people are just
trying to stir up some shit here. I can't really understand what constructive purpose is served by stirring up unfounded rumors at a time when many people who didn't initially support Kerry are just starting to get used to the idea, and trying to work up some excitement about him. It seems very counterproductive to encouraging people to get on board with Kerry.

I honestly think that if the Democratic party really thinks it needs a conservative Republican on the ticket to beat Bush, that we might as well have just nominated Jeb, or simply fuse the two parties, or give the Democratic party a well deserved mercy killing.

I don't think that the party has reached that point yet, and I too am mystified be all this sudden enthusiasm for a conservative Republican on the ticket.

13. Um, this little rumor HELPED US
As long as it's NOT going to happen, I don't mind people talking about it--it makes Bush NOT Kerry look stupid. Even a Republican--a well respected one--is deserting the chimp; most people will not think worse of the Kerry campaign for this.

Don't worry. We're going to have a Dem ticket.

14. I heard Bill Press
on KGO talking up McCain as VP for Kerry. He said it would be such a positive move toward bipartisanship. Right. For the Dems. THe Repugs hate bipartisanship and won't do a damn thng bipartisan even if McCain is on the ticket.

We won't get fooled again.
