Georgia Mayors Support Clark
Little Rock - Today, Wes Clark's presidential campaign received the support of Mayor Floyd Griffin of Milledgeville, who joined General Clark in Savannah, and Mayor Jack Ellis of Macon.
"It's an honor to have Mayor Griffin and Mayor Ellis stand beside me in my campaign especially since -- we stood together before -- as soldiers in Vietnam," said Clark. "These two men have fought hard to bring equal opportunity and economic development to people all across Georgia. And it's clear that Mayor Ellis and Mayor Griffin are giving to the people of Georgia as much as they gave to the military and to our country during their years of service."
Ellis was a Captain in Vietnam. He was awarded three Bronze Stars, the Army Commendation Medal for Valor and Heroism, and the Purple Heart.
"I look forward to having Ellis serve a significant role in my campaign. The last time we served together was in Vietnam," said Clark.
Ellis previously acted as the President of the Georgia Conference of Black Mayors and was named one of the 100 most influential men in the State of Georgia by Georgia Trend Magazine. In 1999, Mayor Ellis was sworn in as the first black Mayor of Macon in the city's 176 year history. This November, he was reelected with more than 71% of the vote.
Mayor Floyd Griffin served as a flight instructor and helicopter pilot during the Vietnam war. He rose to the rank of Colonel before retiring after 23 years of service. In 1994, he was elected to the Georgia State Senate from the 25th District of Georgia. In 2001, he became the Mayor of Milledgeville, GA. Mayor Griffin met General Clark during Max Cleland's 2002 reelection effort. He is currently the President of the Georgia Conference of Black Mayors.
