Secret Service Protection of Leading Candidates
I remember when I was watching Clinton as he made his way through the primaries. At first, he had zero protection. Then he had one guard, than, like after the nomination and about two weeks before the election he had as much security as Bush Sr. did.

I have not seen any security for any of the top candidates. Do people think that the Dems don't have a chance of winning? Has anyone been around the candidates to know how they decide. I worry about the safety and security of our candidates. Does anyone know if they plan on giving them some security in the near future.

Mike

the leading candidates all wear bulletproof vests. Clark wears kevlar. Dean wears teflon. And Kerry has a few ketchup packets in his left breast pocket.

8. I think I've seen a few at Dean's speeches...
They're not very obvious, but you can recognize them because they are always preoccupied, looking somewhere else when he's giving a speech. They're dressed like everybody else.

9. I think they were Dean supporters
Why else would they be looking to make sure nobody they knew would find out they support Dean, kind of like when you are in Wal-Mart. LOL J/K.

11. After Wallace was shot in 1972
"major" candidates got secret service protection, but the law seems to be a bit vague as to exactly when it can start. The official Secret Service website itself doesn't mention this coverage, but a google search brings up various references to it.

The law was actually passed after RFK was shot, but apparently not used until after Wallace was shot.
