Poll question: When the dust settles ...... will this place be a smoldering mess?
This primary is ugly and I see a very UN-UNITED group of people. I know that it will take me a long time to come around and support Obama if he gets the nomination (I will VOTE for him ...... but at this point that would be it).

Do you think the party is heading for a great division after the convention as bad as it is around here?

1. I think that all depends how the nominee is selected...
if the candidate leading in pledged delegates and popular vote is undone due to superdelegates, there will be huge problems. But if the leading candidate gets in, I don't think it'll be nearly as bad.

2. There will be tombstones.
There will be people completely losing their minds.

Statistically some people will commit suicide.

7. We could use a few.
If one candidate becomes the nominee and a few of the more-vitriolic, hateful supporters of the other candidate can't take it, then good riddance, I say.

5. If we don't buck up and start acting like FELLOW Democrats
instead of sniping at one another, we will have problems. I'll admit, I snipe back sometimes too, but the Republican Party needs to look no further than many posts in GD: P to tarnish whichever of our candidates gets the nomination.

8. We'll be fine
This board and this particular forum is not a reflection of the mass constituency. We're passionate wonks, duking it out for our candidates. I am digging it.

And nobody seems to care.

The same people who accuse Clinton of trying to change the rules in the middle of the game are now demanding that the admins change the rules here. They spend months with baseless smears and right-wing attacks against Clinton, and then their guy takes a little heat and they demand action.

I have to say I'm enjoying today's explosion more than I should.

10. When McCain starts attacking our nominee...
...it'll get lots better.

We're good at ass-kicking. It'll be better when the asses in question don't belong to democrats.

DU is not the real world
In the real world, Democrats are pleased with both candidates.

Only in the bizarro world of DU would this kind of campaign get ugly.

Thankfully, we have no influence here.

11. The interesting thing to me is that there is a potentially big split in the Dems anyways.
And yet Clinton and Obama only represent one side of that fight. Seeing their supporters go after each candidate when each one is so identical in policy is baffling. People who like one should like the other if issues matter, but people seem more caught in up in a star mentality when it comes to them.

12. If it goes anything like primary 2004, once the nom is selected, new rules go into effect.
I think mods are being much more tolerant of the stupidity now than they will be after the nominee is selected.

18. Nope. It's DU that seems headed for a great division.
This battle between the supporters of my fourth and fifth choices for the Dem nomination seems to be getting way outa hand. Then again, I haven't been around here long enough to predict what'll happen. I didn't start coming here until the run up to (or maybe shortly after) the '06 midterms, so maybe it'll calm down after all the rabble rousers stop coming here trying to rouse the rabble. (One can hope, can't one?)
