Gore Rumor With LINK:
Will Gore Endorse Obama?

By Steve Clemons, Huffington Post. Posted February 7, 2008.

<snip>

It is a rumor apparently spreading like wildfire through the Clinton campaign. A well-placed spouse of a Clinton campaign insider just told me that a rumor is spreading like wild fire that Al Gore is going to endorse Barack Obama.

My source emphasizes that this is rumor and may just be paranoia and hyperventilation of the campaign, but it's important to know that this rumor is out there. Another source of mine inside Obamaland has told me that they have been working very hard to secure Gore's public support and trying numerous avenues to "encourage" him.

Frankly, I'm surprised that Gore would do this now -- despite his clear disaffection for the Clintons. He is the undisputed king of the climate change franchise now, but even kingdoms can be assaulted, undermined, outfoxed, circumvented, ridiculed, and starved.

If Hillary Clinton wins this tight race -- which she may still do -- then Gore is gambling with his own status as a climate-change first-and-only transcendant politician.

It will be interesting to see what happens, and of course if Barack Obama wins the primary and then the presidency, Al Gore will get significant credit. The problem is that that can work the other way too.

1. It's a tough call
If Clinton and Obama battle all the way to the convention, then the ultimate "winner" may be too damaged to beat McCain (especially if it is Clinton, who is already weaker against McCain).

If Gore endorses Obama and that isn't enough to put Obama over the top, then somehow Clinton wins, the worst could happen as far as him losing leverage for his cause.

OTOH in any case if Clinton wins, Gore may feel that he doesn't have much leverage to lose, and a Clinton presidency (or God forbid a McCain presidency) would be harmful enough that he has to risk it.

Just my 2-bit analysis, I'm sure many others here will disagree. :)

No, seriously, though...I'm sick of rumors, and I will believe it when I've seen it with my own eyes.

4. His endorsement would be devastating to the Clintons.
Just having it hang out there might be enough.

He probably can leave it right in that state and accomplish almost as much.

5. Ted Kennedy, John Kerry, Maria Shriver, Caroline Kennedy, Oprah...
It will just be another notch in The Goddess Of Peace's belt...

What's ironic is how tone deaf some of these politicians are that they don't see how this piling one is just strengthening the resolve of Hillary and her supporters of whom they are crucial to for our prospects in the Fall...

10. Apparently Hillary Zombies don't know who Steve Clemons is. He writes the Washington Note
which is one of the most respected blogs on the Democratic side of the internet when it comes to actual discussion of issues.

No wonder you've never heard of him.

...energy sources?

AND who has been bought by Exelon?

FACE IT. Obama's energy policy is rot. Corporate-shilling rot.

I don't think Gore should endorse ANYONE - because NO ONE is doing nearly enough about climate change. CERTAINLY NOT Obama, or Clinton either (though her proposed policies are a damn lot better than HIS are).

FURTHERMORE, if I was Gore, I'd STAY THE HELL out of the political end of it - he wanted out of politics and it seems to me he doesn't want to go back. I can't blame him.

POLITICIANS cannot accomplish one damn thing when they are owned by corporations (except that they can accomplish a lot FOR the corporations). Politicians who WANT to accomplish things for anyone BESIDES corporations are PUSHED OUT of the race or cheated out of the job even when they WIN - like Edwards/Kucinich and like Gore, respectively.

If you want PROGRESS - you find another way - that's what Gore did. It's likely what Edwards will do (I hope).

WHY would Gore insert himself back into that broken f*cked-up system again to endorse anyone now?

He MIGHT - not saying he won't. But it would be totally nonsense to me if he did.

It's hilarious.
