So? After all, what is more expensive, ongepodgeket and unnecessary than an actual active candidacy? You are expected to have tv advertisements, to show up places, to debate people--but what if every one already knew who you were? What if Laura Ingraham and Ann Coulter and Mike Savage and Rush Limbaugh were already possibly doing your campaigning for you, from a position of "I has a radio program--noes, they no be stealing my anti-McCain bucket?"
What if you were really still a candidate? Even if you were a silly and "golden" flip-flop waiting to be exploited in ritual media beatings?
What exactly does a "suspension" mean to Romney? He keeps some delegates, and his name probably stays on for some ballots. He still picks up some people--because he "left classy".
Classy<1>--he left to allow the GOP front runner the ability to win--gracious. Classy<2>--he swiped the Democratic candidates by likening them winning to capitulating to terrorism. Romney is currently at the head of the "class". He may (won't) do anything for the economy, but alledgedly could, and can't (won't) be a real social conservative and won't ( can't) formulate anything sensible about the Iraq or Afghanistan wars--but still, the blogouisie can say he's still a factor.
Even if he says he isn't.
No really, they could.
As a blogger myself, I say the candidacy of Willard Mitt Romney is still very much alive and well and a serious threat to Republican front-runner John McCain, admittedly a liberal in disguise by the strong and well-recognized voices of the GOP-right. Therefore, I encourage the right-wingers to continue to support Mitt Romney, and, if they can not in good conscience do so, vote Huckabee or pencil in Ronald Reagan. I also encourage them to loudly express the various reasons they think John McCain is a totally unsuitable candidate, and why he can not beat Hillary Clinton, if not Barack Obama.
Or even why these Democratic candidates are very much more desirable in the short term than the current Republican front-runner, who is obviously supported by Independents and moderate weasels. Which makes him clearly wrong and, again, unelectable.
Look, you all, stop whatever you are doing. I say we don't have to figure out how Clinton or Obama are supposed to do against one another.
Heck no.
Are they (either of'em) prepared for the Mittmentum? Because it still lies waiting. "Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Mittmentum hearts of the base wgah'nagl fhtagn." Srsly.
(And don't think Guiliani isn't a VP stalking horse, now. Careful, I said it out loud.)
We should really prepare 8>).
(Edit--please view as snark. Tnx!)
