A couple advantages to not having a candidate immediately...?
Edited on Thu Feb-07-08 07:39 PM by Flabbergasted
Among the numerous disadvantages of not having an immediate candidate, aren't there atleast a couple of advantages to not having one right away.

I'm going on the assumption that democrats have a huge advantage this year, which they do in several ways. Most notably, this includes donor base, momentum, turnout, and general disregard for Republucans.

The first advantage, I can think of, is related to Republican smear tactics. Any smears injected into the race will need to wait, possibly months, to be implemenmted. Republican smears have worked wonders, turning a decorated vet into a cowardly creep flip-flopper. There is also less time for these smears to work through the populace.

In addition the GOP will need to prepare two attack strategies: One for Clinton, the other for Obama, until a candidate is decided.

Also much of the media attention McCain would be getting, will be sucked up by the drama in selecting a democratic candidate.

I don't think its all bad if we have to wait till May or June to have a candidate.

Even more important my primary is in May and it might count. :)
