Of Martyrs and Men... and Women
Everywhere you turn, you hear Barack Obama compared to a slain political or religious leader.

He is the New Jesus (and the New Moses, too), a messiah and martyr. Because, um.... I promise there's a step #2. I just know there is. Trust me.

Now what is a martyr? Someone who stoically suffers for the good of others. Yes?

Consider the sacrifices that Obama undertook while listening to his mentor Joe Lieberman drone on about which Middle Eastern country we need to attack next. And getting through Harvard Law School without being labeled, like his final two opponents were, as a goddamn "lawyer."

I wish I could think of someone else who stoically suffered through a nightmare. One that was both brutally public and brutally private, and the proverbial good deed that's been nothing but punished.

Since I can't, I'll share with you this commentary by Jeff Koopersmith instead:

Hillary Clinton paid a dear price to serve the American people, and she also paid personally for Bill’s shenanigans – a bigger price than did he. She paid that price for all of us. And, much to our horror, it should be remembered for all time that the impeachment-crazed reactionaries like Tom DeLay and Newt Gingrich, and “Christian” manipulators including John Whitehead, whose unspoken but obvious goal was to destroy the Clintons' marriage and family, proved Hillary Clinton's mettle, soul, and genuine family values. She stood by her husband. She will stand by us – not only in good times but when our chips are down.

Don’t underestimate this trait. Don’t make fun of something we have far too little of in this world today – loyalty and empathy combined with good intellect and heart.

Heaven forbid she get any credit for that. We don't like drama queens.

Much better to give credit to someone who truthily reminds us of MLK, JFK, and Jesus, not with just cause. But just 'cause.
