Barack Obama
I originally backed Kucinich but really liked Dodd and Biden. Eventually I moved my support and hopes to Edwards; more of a pragmatic choice than passionate one and I still think Edwards was our party's best chance to really cream the GOP in the general election. I'll take the simple and nail biting win though and I think Barack may be able to deliver it better than Hillary.
I think Senator Clinton's "experience" may in fact end up being baggage that will be used as endless ammo against her. Since day one the GOP has been licking its chops waiting to sink their teeth back into the Clinton clan. Our country simply doesn't need that distraction right now. I completely understand the nostalgia factor of what people perceive as going back to the prosperous Clinton years with a Hillary win but I think thats a dangerous illusion. No matter who the next President is this country isn't going back to "prosperity" for quite some time.
Clinton's inability to acknowledge the mistake of her IWR vote bothers me greatly. Watching the debate the other night when she was asked the question I wondered who was holding the remote to the shock collar Hillary was wearing. I hadn't seen a politician dance around an issue so clumsily since..well..Bush.
The dynastic thing bothers me greatly too. The last thing this country needs is more status quo or even worse, ill spent hope in nostalgia. While Obama is less progressive than I'd like he without a doubt does represent a clear changing of the guard both philosophical and generational. Obama seems to me to be less likely to bow to entrenched beltway interests despite his rhetoric of bringing everyone to the table. It's ok to have a wide variety of dinner guests as long as you're the one controlling the conversation and what time the courses come out.
I think it was this last weeks events, debate included obviously, that is going to make me pull the lever for Barack instead of still pulling it for Edwards as many DUers have said they're going to do. I'm not sure what bizarre trick John has up his sleeve but I still support his stand on the issues and hope he will find a way into an Obama administration and I hope he directs his supporters to vote that way. I'd really like to see Hillary get beat in NY though and I have to try to help that cause.
Despite the fact that I do believe that people will come out in droves to vote against a black President, which is a sad commentary on our country, I think maybe enough of this nation has had enough of what divides us and the enlightened will finally overwhelm the ignorant for once in our history. I cherish the thought of the time that bigotry is told in one united voice of the people in this country your time is done; you have no place in this world. We are one race; the human race. Joint it or jump the fuck off.
As far as the McCain threat I can't give it any power. I figure if the people of this country are stupid enough to vote again, for what has proved to be, the most destructive party of scumbags ever to loot this nation; then they get what they deserve, which will be the end of the USA as we know it.
So with a hopeful heart I, and probably Mrs. Shadow, go to cast our votes for Barack Obama tomorrow. Early and often. Yes we can! S
