Dear _____________,
For the past two days, I have heard allegations that are bubbling up in the media against Barack Obama, and I have been thinking about the implications. I have three children, one who will be of voting age come November. They have gone from “whatever” to seriously politically engaged. There is a movement growing across this country – citizens of every age, race, sex and political affiliation are waking up from their disgust. They are showing up at the polls in record numbers in states across this country, because someone has allowed them to feel hope for the future of their country.
I have friends - suburban females who switched parties to vote for George Bush, libertarians, Republicans, hyper-liberals, and moderate Democrats, both male and female, who are thinking about working with people whose ideology they disagree with, for the first time. They no longer care about “wins” for their side – they want to do what is right for their country again, no matter who came up with the idea.
Now, I hear rumors about the “big news” the “unanswered questions” that will be discussed about Barack Obama and cocaine use. I thought back to when the allegations came out against George Bush during his primary run, and how only
11% of people said they cared, and how the issue was quickly dropped.
I am not asking to be remiss in your duties as news reporters, I am just asking you to do a little research. Look back into your coverage of George W. Bush’s cocaine use. Give Senator Obama the same coverage on this issue that you gave Governor Bush.
Thank you for your consideration,
