How will California react to Hillary's HealthCare mandate
Edited on Mon Feb-04-08 12:39 AM by Jim4Wes
California is a pretty progressive state, I wouldn't be surprised if they like Hillary's ideas for Healthcare reform, yes with the mandate and all.

Opinions?

edit:

Here is a link to Scwarzeneggers plan that mandates coverage for all Californians, he unveiled it last year:

2. What with the highest rents/mortgages in the nation
we know we are always fucked when the federal government decides what we can "afford." The minimum wage is also a joke here.

5. Well since she's had that on her platform since she put her healthcare plan up...
they'd be pretty stupid to start the freak out now as oppose to before.

25. Unlike here, people in the real world don't start paying attention
until the few weeks or even days before their primaries.

That's why Hillary had commanding leads all across the country, but whenever there was a primary or caucus, and people there started paying attention, her numbers invariably dropped to realistic levels.

People freak out when they learn the truth of her proposals. Simple as that.

26. I never paid attention to health care before today
I thought it was a matter of a few of my tax dollars going to help poor and elderly patients. Good cause, but not my main issue.

Today, I found out Hillary wants to make me buy insurance. One more reason to vote against her.

32. But left in the hands of private insurers, it will do NOTHING to
bring down costs. Only increase profits.

Take the profit motive out, THEN mandate through taxes. What it costs is taxes will be offset by what people and companies are NOT paying to private insurers - the 30% that goes into insurance industry profits will mean an instant 30% reduction in healthcare costs. Then, there's the amount saved by not having healthcare money paying for advertisting, for salesmen, for the millions spent by some connecticut company to put a 15 second ad on at the superbowl to convince you to by THEIR insurance over somebody else's.

50% of why you spend on healthcare has NOTHING to do with healthcare. A government run single-payer universal healtcare system would save virtually ALL of that 50%. The only eligibility requirement for healthcare is being sick. The only pre-existing condition to consider is life.

Those who claim Hillary's plan is socialized medicine don't know what the fuck they are talking about. It is mandated payments to private entities, with NO guarantee of improved healthcare.

18. these are the kinds of things i actually "hope" for. But i feel like...
the exact opposite happens. and that's the whole barack thing instills in me the exact opposite feeling of hope. people would rather be swayed by baracks rhetoric than use their brains. it really sucks. i keep hoping people would use common sense, but time and time again it goes the other way. i'm still hopeful though, unless barack wins, in which case i will NEVER EVER have faith in the public again.

22. and the sadder part is what makes people popular. Really depressing.
Gore should have had much more support, but people are fucking stupid. They wanted the "uniter not a divider". smart campaign, but little did they know. i guess that couldn't stand to hear all the sense gore was making. would have made their brains hurt or something. i give up. If Bo wins, i will literally have no hope left that we will ever get it right.

16. Southern Cal is pretty Conservative....they don't like the word "Mandate"....
Northern Cal is progressive, but we already are in the majority for Obama.

So Hill has a problem.

23. A state where the Republican Gov has already proposed
something very similar? And a Democratic primary?

I remember California as being progressive in the sense they were willing to try things first. They have to in order to deal with the issues that are unique there.

Anyways, it was just something that popped into my head, and I find it interesting the Hillary turned up the heat on the issue right before ST. I think she believes it will help her in the Big Blue states.

24. I thought about that earlier today
Because it was being spammed for a while. I think people will like her plan. Typically when people think of universal health care they think increased tax's like in Canada and Europe and they don't like it. With her plan it will be more cost effective because it's premiums are salery based. Plus you have 2 options. And, you have no copayer. It covers pre-existing conditions as well. And, say you have no income it would be free. I think it will work out well but then again it would be worked over many times before it becomes a bill.
