Politics got ugly at Clinton rally at Cal State Bakersfield Friday
Betty, not Hillary, packs them in

The Bakersfield Californian | Friday, Feb 1 2008 10:20 PM

They came for Betty, mostly, but some left thinking about Hillary. "Ugly Betty" star America Ferrera and four other young celebrities hit Cal State Bakersfield Friday afternoon to stump for Hillary Clinton.

The actors showed up more than an hour late, but 150 or so students were on hand to see the hit TV show's namesake and her Hollywood colleagues when they finally got to the student union after 2 p.m.

Psychology major Kevin Broomfield, 18, said before the stars' arrival he just wanted to see Betty. He didn't plan to vote in California's primary Tuesday.

After the speeches -- and after friends snapped his picture standing next to Ferrera -- Broomfield said he was thinking seriously about voting for Clinton.

Ferrera and Amber Tamblyn, her co-star in the movie "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants," came to Bakersfield between appearances at Cal State Dominguez Hills and Fresno State Friday.

Eddie Kaye Thomas ("American Pie") and two British actors, Sean Maguire ("Meet the Spartans") and Simon Woods ("Pride and Prejudice"), appeared with the women.

All five spoke about their support for Clinton before posing for fan pictures.

2. If they came out and said
they were considering voting for Obama then all the Clinton-ites here would have one more TV show to boycott

10. let's not give this 'crowd' any credit for the individulism of its peers
It's much easier, that way, to smear them with broad brush criticisms.

7. "They came for Betty, mostly, but some left thinking about Hillary." I was at a Kerry
