WASHINGTON - Barack Obama raised a staggering $32 million during January, providing an infusion of money to pay for costly television advertising in next week's Super Tuesday Democratic presidential primary elections and for the states that follow, his aides said Thursday.
The Obama campaign has led the Democratic field in television advertising so far, with the Illinois senator airing $22.7 million worth of television ads to $18.7 million for rival Sen. Hillary Clinton through Jan. 27, according to a study to be released Friday.

Obama's $32 million January total is the most ever for the month in a presidential election year, according to the Federal Election Commission. He is advertising in 20 of the 22 states with votes or caucuses next Tuesday and on Friday will begin advertising in Oklahoma, meaning he will only be off the air in his home state of Illinois, campaign manager David Plouffe said in a call with reporters.
By Friday, Obama also will be advertising in all six of the states and the District of Columbia that have votes or caucuses the following week, Plouffe added.
Clinton is advertising in 12 Super Tuesday states, including her home state of New York, The Associated Press reported.
Spokesmen for Clinton did not respond to requests for her campaign's fundraising results for the month.
