Yale Daily News endorses Obama
Primary Endorsement: Barack Obama

It would seem natural for us to endorse Hillary Clinton for president.

She attended Yale Law School — the roots of the Clintonian dynasty are here in New Haven — and left an accomplished and well liked alumna. She has led an inspiring career of public service since.

And indeed, we are grateful for the past 18 years of Eli representation in the Oval Office. Four, or eight, more sounds nice enough.

But the time has come to abdicate Yalie rule over America, at least for now. The past three United States presidents — George H. W. Bush ’48, Bill Cinton LAW ’73 and George W. Bush ’68 — had their strengths. But in the end, they were good presidents (if that) — and not great ones. Too often, they behaved like politicians — and not leaders.

Hillary Clinton LAW ’73 is of the same breed. To endorse her would be to endorse intelligence and preparedness, but also divisiveness and the politics of manipulation. And, as it seems of late, it would be to endorse Bill Clinton, with his own baggage and questionable campaign tactics to boot.

So we turn instead to an honest, and brilliant, man who represents his actual home state in the U.S. Senate, has more years of elected experience than Clinton and gave so many of us chills with his speech at the 2004 Democratic National Convention. His Harvard Law degree notwithstanding, Democrats across Connecticut and the nation should embrace Barack Obama as the next president of the United States on Tuesday.

So many at Yale have done just that.

8. I think it's pretty funny that their "endorsement" would carry any weight
Edited on Fri Feb-01-08 01:09 PM by DainBramaged
I'd have said the same think if they had endorsed Hillary. They are about as far removed from the average voter as people who sail yachts around the world or show jump horses are. People of privilege who will never get their hands dirty or go without for a second.

10. It IS an endorsement...not an "endorsement." And of course it will carry weight...

If they had endorsed Hillary it wouldn't carry as much weight since it would be expected. It's like your father saying your buddy (or even your enemy) is the best person for the job instead of you. Funny how you're trashing the school Hillary went to. I doubt you'd be trashing it if they endorsed HER.

20. Yale makes a big deal out of the fact their their mission is to educate tomorrow's leaders.
I know that sounds incredibly snotty, and it is, but you have to say it's true when you look at all the Yalies in some top government spots. Granted, a whole bunch of them makes one cringe -- that crazy guy Bolton is a Yalie and, along with Bush, a huge embarrassment to Yale, IMO. So it's a mixed bag...I've known some great Yalies and some real duds (in addition to the aforementioned)...

about divisiveness and manipulation. Who can gain the upper hand over their opponent. I get pissed and I mean pissed when an endorsement of obama always seems to beleive this election will be so different then past elections. Well hell lets look at the past two....Did the republicans play nice with Gore? Hell NO! Did the republicans play nice with Kerry? HELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL NO! What makes these people believe just because obama is teling everyone he will reach out to the republicans....uh huh reach your hand out to those bastards and afterwards you will either be nicknamed Captain Hook or Peg Leg Bates.....Those facist bastards play to win and do not have time to sit around and sing the Campfire Song with SpongeBob and Obama.....

I ask a question. What good did it do Bill Clinton in january of 1993 to wanna play nice with those bastards? It did him no damn good. Again, I ask, why if the republicans believe with all their hearts and minds they can beat HRC in November do they constantly attack her. Day in day out they attack her.....but have you obama folks heard of any republican attack obama? You ever stop to think why not?

HRC can beat McCain and all this early polling which shows HRC and Obama both losing to McCain is bs....hell, bill Clinton was losing to bush 41 and to parot in 92.....bill clinton was losing to bob dole in 96 election, but we know how those two turned out....

you ever stop to think that maybe the pollster ask 100 more people in red states their opinion on who they beleive will win? that chit happens and knowing it does will always give the repug candidate the advantage....
