Rachael Madow is pissed at Hillary for her Iraq bullshit
Edited on Thu Jan-31-08 11:11 PM by jefferson_dem
MSNBC now ---

Madow said Hillary made it much much worse for herself tonight. She remembers being very sad and angry when she first found out Hillary would vote for the resolution. Hillary knows damn well what she was voting for the war and her deflection tonight was absolutely insufferable.

4. Was Obama in the Senate at that time?
Imagine being from the state of New York, which suffered the brunt of the attacks on 9/11 and not authorizing the President to send the U.N. to check out Sadaam's weapons. She would have been roasted as a heathen.

Who'd thunk the President of the U.S. would lie to Congress and the American people to start a pre-emptive war. What's worse is that Chimp and Darth have gotten off scott free.

5. Many Americans were not seeing straight.
The NY connection hadn't occurred to me. Same goes for Edwards, he had his constituents on his back.

Too many Americans were so strongly behind bush, an uprising by Dems against a Repub majority Congress was unthinkable. There were very few profiles in courage during those times.

Most of us on DU knew the vote was wrong, even then. All of us wish we could turn back the hands of time.

Bush's choice to wage an illogical war on a country that never attacked us - proved to me that Bush is a liar.

Hillary is DLC and is pro Iraq war.

34. A senator - really all of our
congresspersons are supposed to represent their constituents. Hers were the ones most directly affected by 9/11 - I'm one of them. I had no problem with her vote then - and I don't now. Doesn't mean I don't think that the chimp took advantage of people's very reasonable fears in order to do what I suspect he wanted to do since the day he took the oath of office.

40. Congresscritters do not "represent" their constituents.
They take the following oath of office: "I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter."

It's like Hillary had never heard of the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution and that she didn't know the intent of the U.S. Constitution is for Congress to declare war, not for the deliverance of blank checks for war to the President.

41. What are you talking about
The reason we are not a pure democracy is because we are a representative republic - we don't directly elect our leaders, we elect people to represent us. As far as only congress being able to declare war - I'm in total agreement. The fact no declaration of war was made has always bothered me (as in Korea and Vietnam as well).

47. Be careful not to mix up political theory with the letter of the law.
A Congresscritters first duty is to the Constitution. The concept of representation is a product of purely electoral politics that has embeded itself in the public imagination as "I want mine." Show me in the Constitution or the US Code where they must "represent" the opinions of their constituents. The truth is that often the Founding Father's thought of the common people as rabble not to be listened too or served. If they truly represented their constituents they would never vote against anything popular in their district.

Hillary's duty was the Constitution of the United States and the well-being of the Republic and not to the whim of her state.

38. correct; obama would have voted for IWR if he had been in the senate. and hillary 'gave a speech' op
opposing the war. it's quite common for politicians to vote one way and make a speech the other way; that way they've got both bases covered. i'm not defending it, but it's standard operating procedure, and you are naive indeed if you think obama's speech amounts to a hill of beans. since he's been in the senate he's voted the same as hillary. anyone who cares about IWR (and i'm not demeaning this concern at all) should write in kucinich.

8. Not buyin' it, Hillary apologists!
It was common knowledge, both inside and outside the Beltway, that Bushhole had designs on Iraq before he even got into the WH. He launched the invasion in 2003, THREE YEARS into his first infamous term full of lying skullduggery.

Now you are proposing to tell me that none of the Democrats in Congress didn't know this guy was a cheap ass LIAR of the lowest order when he made his pitch to only use force "if necessary" on Iraq?

Please don't insult my intelligence, or yours.

DLC has a firm stance in favor of the Iraq War.

It is no mistake that Hillary voted for the war, regardless of what she says.

She is a member of the DLC, the DLC is strongly in favor of the war.

I'd be flattered if I took you seriously. Newsflash: I don't.

You really need to do something about that anger of yours. Something must be bothering you an awful lot if you'd make an average of 160 posts per day. Go outside for a while. Get some fresh air. Smell some flowers. Go to the library and read a nice book. Exercise. You're really not doing yourself any good railing against people who don't give a damn.

Bye-ee!

I was too busy getting into full blown shouting matches with just about everyone I came into contact with. I felt like I was in some fucking alternate universe not being able to find a single person that was willing to ask basic questions before going to war.
No student demonstrations nothing. Even half of the buddhists at the temple I go to went along with it. I never missed talking with a Quaker so much since 1976.

46. So, Hillary is saying she is ignorant, and not nearly as intelligent
as millions of people around the world who knew full well we were being fed lies. Not too savvy. So, do I want to vote for someone who isn't as bright as the average Joe and Jane in the street, or someone who is disenfranchising millions of gay people? I don't feel I'm being given a good choice here. Happily, I already voted for Edwards. And I'd do it again. My conscience wouldn't have it any other way.
