But but but but I thought he was a DINO and a Reagan evangelical republican? That's what I heard on DU!

Most liberal

National Journal rates Obama the single "most liberal" member of the Senate last year, spotlighting some policy differences, as well writing GOP attack ad if he's the nominee, but perhaps also a helpful note in consolidating support on the left now.

There are some details of their ratings here (.pdf), which include a couple of interesting differences.

Clinton voted against "an immigration bill amendment, co-sponsored by Obama, to remove a rule requiring temporary workers to go back to their countries in between two-year job stints in the United States."

And Obama voted against "a student aid bill amendment to provide immunity from
discrimination lawsuits to people who report suspicious activity potentially related to terrorism.

The latter, so called "John Doe immunity," is a bit of a hot button, and a likely general election issue.

One note: National Journal doesn't delve into how the fact that Obama seems to have missed more votes that Hillary affects the ranking; it gives him a percentage score among the votes he actually made.

1. Apparently folks are content not acknowledging this.
It doesn't fit into the lies they tell here about Obama.

2. Sorry, I don't buy it either
the only reason NJ is doing this is for attack purposes if he's the nominee? Is he as liberal as my two Senators? No. They vote no on funding the war for example. And both have written far more progressive legislation than Obama. Most organizations that rate the Senate members on how liberal they are, place him around 10th or so. That's still great, but he's not the most liberal.

4. I don't like these "ratings".

On trade and the environment, he has NOT been the most liberal... not by a longshot.
