Obama raises 32 Million....wait for it.......wait for it.......this MONTH.
Campaign manager David Plouffe says he's raised $32 million this month.

That would be more than $1 million a day.

28. People spend money on what they think is important.
The interesting thing about Obama's fund raising is its breadth. It is mostly small donations, from individuals who have no formal tie to political fundraising, who think this election is that important.

2. How many minutes of TV could that buy in the big markets
Edited on Thu Jan-31-08 11:33 AM by HereSince1628
Like LA, NYC, Boston and such? I'm just curious. I have a general sense that although that is a LOT of money to raise in a month, it will not buy a whole lot of minutes.

I've seen him several times on MSNBC :)

8. He's advertising in ALL the major markets
and all but 5 of the Super Tuesday states, and he'll be adding those on within the next couple of days. He has buys in the next round of states. He's raised at least as much as Clinton, if not more. And he added 160,000 new donors in a one month period.

13. I'm still wondering about how much it costs to run an ad
in the major markets.

I don't want to judge or criticize any campaign for effort money raising,I'm just curious how much it costs.

I can imagine tens of thousands for such a spot, but I have no idea if that guess is close to the actual cost.

30. it is very expensive
Edited on Thu Jan-31-08 12:04 PM by GoldieAZ49
and no one can can give an exact dollar amount.

TV spots are sold in dayparts, the greater the reach (more viewers) the more expensive it is. It is also by demographics, what age range you are trying to reach. Then you also have the price difference between local or national buys.

The Super Bowl ad that run nationally cost over a million for a 60 second spot, the prices vary by when they run, pre game, half time, etc.

Obama's Super Bowl spots are on local stations. Political ads are not allowed for the Super Bowl at the national level.

edit: there are also discounts for multiple buys.

Now we'll know who would REALLY be running the country in the Obama administration...over half the donors probably donate to both parties.

12. Do some math. He has well over 600,000 donors
and much has been written about how many of them have given well under the limit and thus remain a resource to be tapped over and over. Furthermore, 160,000 of those donors are new this month. He's raising grassroots money. Sorry if that doesn't fit in with your bullshit narrative and agenda.

22. 170,000 new donors - average donation $188.00; Clinton raised $27 mil
Edited on Thu Jan-31-08 11:56 AM by FLDem5
fyi

This is a new record.

Clinton also did well:

http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalradar/2007/07/obama-raises-32.html
Obama's cash totals this quarter will likely best Sen. Hillary Clinton D-N.Y., whose campaign has said the former first lady probably raised somewhere around $27 million.

Edited on Thu Jan-31-08 12:56 PM by janeaustin
according to the link you gave us.

And in that quarter, Obama did raise $32.5 to Hillary's $27 million.
