Meet Frank Giustra, Mining Magnate and Clinton Chum

Posted on Jan 31, 2008

The name Frank Giustra may not ring many bells to those outside the international mining industry, but Thursday’s New York Times brings Giustra (pictured with Clinton) out of relative obscurity into sharp focus with its startling report about a Canadian entrepeneur who boldly inserted himself into the uranium business in Kazakhstan (!) and into Bill Clinton’s inner circle.

1. I'm sure that we will become intimate with Mr. Giustra......
and the 1.35 million, most ending up as a "contribution" to someone's library.

2. Not a damn thing that was done was unethical - or something Barak won't do after his term in office

5. There is no prior report quoting Bill Clinton claiming otherwise - the reporter claims he
was told differently - but does not quote the words used.

A bit like Obama's conservative votes - where he claims he "pushed the wrong button" - three times

At some point folks will have to allow that Obama is not a saint - and get on to discussing policy and likelihood of being able to get policy made into law.

3. Depends on your ethics, I guess
Praising the human rights "progress" of a dictator in order to secure mining contracts for an associate seems a bit unethical to me. But then I'm apparently a "moral purist" according to some. I don't think people should go around praising dictators and making it harder for the international community to apply pressure on them.

6. Since i didn't use the word "elected" anywhere in my post
I have no idea what you're even referring to here.

7. agreed. Pat Robertson works with bloodsucking dictators for
personal gain and people condemn him. But this ... moral purist? No. Decent person. Yes.
