I think Obama beats McCain because...

1) Youth versus old age. Obama looks younger and healthier at the age of 47. McCain looks old at the age of 71.
2) Anti-war versus never ending wars. Like it or not, Obama has been labeled as being anti-war from the beginning. McCain just recently talked about a never ending presence in Iraq. And, don't forget "Bomb, bomb, bomb.. bomb, bomb, Iran"
3) New voters + Dems for Obama versus McCain's Repubs and some Indys. McCain does do well with Independants, but so does Obama. Obama will also bring out many new voters (youth and African-Americans).
4) Energy. Many pundits have wondered about McCains ability to campaign over a long GE run. Obama always looks fresh.
5) McCain's support of Bush. Focusing on McCain's support of Bush's policy would be easy for any candidate.

1. I think I will let Hillary speak for herself and not give away any
secrets that will give fodder for attacks, spin, and talking points.

3. All good points...
Which is why I think he's our best bet ~ in addition to the strong anti-Clinton feeling on the other side, which will serve both to bring Republicans to the polls and keep many from crossing over.

Those pictures are WAY too much on an empty stomach ~ I need some breakfast!! :)

4. Obama appeals to Independents and even some disaffected Republicans. Hillary does not.
We need these crossover votes to win, and to build a working majority to effect change in Washington.

5. Hillary is a proven fighter who will paint Mccain as a Bush clone (she won like this
Edited on Thu Jan-31-08 09:25 AM by robbedvoter
in 2000 in NY against Lazio)
I also think that if they try to steal it again, she will fight for my vote, unlike "delegates, not votes" Obama.
As Bill Scheider said: Hillary is the anti-bush, Obama is the uh-bush (he then told us we want un-bush - because he always knows what we want - lilr in 2000 we wanted to stop recounts)

Obama has a very thin skin - and is under the delusion that the MSM love fest would continue once he would have -presumably - secured the nomination. I am not sure how he's handle the turn around - because believe me, the Clintons' "machine" is nothing like the GOP smear machine.
Hillary has been through the ringer and scrutiny for 16 years - all bagage inspected and nothing found.
Obama has a big bad story the media is sitting on for now - which will be exploited - as corruption and collusion with the terraists (the ME connection)
Also, from the NY Post endorsement of Obama:

Finally, Sen. Clinton stands philosophically far to the left of her
husband, and is much more disciplined in pursuit of her agenda.

It must be true as the Nation agrees with the NY Post

7. I'd like some specifics, please
I talk to and, more important, LISTEN to what voters in my area are worried about. I think this is important, as it gives one a notion as to what concerns voters most and what the candidates need to let folks know about.

1. What, specifically, has Clinton said she would do about the economy?

2. How will her health care plan effect folks who make more than poverty level but under $25K a year? That's most folks I know, and most don't have health insurance and are barely getting by. I think that the GOP will say her health care plan is mandated insurance-you will be forced to buy insurance even if that means you won't have money to buy food or pay rent. (For me, insurance plans would take over 1/4 of my income each month, for example.) We've got to come up with specific information that will show that this plan won't fail like the one Romney instituted in MA.

One other thing I'd like to say that I think would work as a strategy for Clinton--focus on ISSUES and NOT personality. She has some real negatives to overcome as far as her personality goes. And another thing-Bill Clinton needs to take a smaller role in the campaign. From what I've heard, his stepping in in SC made his wife look weak on issues--when the going gets tough, she has to run to hubby for help. Mind you, I've only talked to about a dozen or so people. Of them, only one is a political junkie--and the comments about the Clintons did not come from her, but from people who describe themselves as independents.

6. good start, but I want details on these items:
1. How would your candidate handle the economy? As things get worse, this will become THE issue. We need plans to get jobs back into America, rebuild infrastructure, etc. What are McCain's plans along these lines? What are your candidate's?

2. How would your candidate's health care plan benefit the American people? McCain doesn't have a plan for health care except to keep it as it is. Does your candidate's plan mandate that everyone get health care? If so, realize how easily McCain can spin this as "forced insurance buying", implying that everyone will have to shell out big bucks for a policy that they well may consider they can ill afford.

These are the two big issues I hear folks talking about as I listen to comments in my neighborhood.

For Obama--I know this is going to sound racist, but this is what I heard from one fellow right after SC who wants to vote Democratic--Obama has to show that he is a candidate for all people, and that his programs are designed to help everyone, not just minorities. I think the repuke strategy against him will be to paint him as being only for blacks. This strategy must be counteracted upon ASAP.

11. McCain support of Bush+ his age or energy
We have already had one President Reagan, that was out of it most of the last four years. Nancy was President, Know I would see turning the nation over to Elizabeth Edwards, but that blond bimbo McCain is married to ... I don't think so
