CNN just showed Giuliani
Talking about Obama bringing up Reagan's legacy indicating even a democratic candidate talks about Reagan as a popular republican president. It's on the Larry King Live show and Larry King showed all the republican candidates speaking highly of Reagan then he went on to say when the democrats are talking about Reagan there must be something to it. I find the comparison of the party's interesting. (I'm paraphrasing but y'all get the jest to my post.)

1. We at DU bring up the Reagan legacy too, but that doesn't mean we think highly of it.

2. I just want everyone to know. I told a DUer that they would use Obama's words that way
Edited on Wed Jan-30-08 11:22 PM by xultar
it was an Obama supporter and they said no way...they'll never use Obama's words about raygun as positive.

I said they'd say EXACTLY the same thing that was said...that if a Democrat was saying something good about raygun then there must be something to it.

They will use Obama's raygun statements in GOP for Pres commercials. WATCH. Whether he gets the nomination or not. They will use his words against the Dem nominee.

WATCH.

4. That will only attract independents.
I say let 'em. Obama's running on a platform of inclusiveness. This rings very well with my Clinton averse and historically Republican parents. They both want to vote for Obama, but shiver whenever they hear the name Clinton. It's Bill that they don't like, but Hillary is guilty by association in their minds.

My parents and millions of others in this country would look at Obama's ability to say something nice about the opposition party as a signal that he is a reasonable and fair person.

11. Xultar, O isn't going to change his policy positions. It's using rhetoric. You know that, yes?

13. Then why is it that people are so angry @ current Dems for reaching across the aisle?
IT's o.k when Obama does it, but when Reid, Pelosi, and others do it they are Republican lite and deserve what they get.

I'm sick of the double standards in this place.

15. oops, I meant he is NOT going to change his policy positions. I don't ever trash Reid & Pelosi t
Edited on Wed Jan-30-08 11:40 PM by cryingshame
however, there's a difference between using rhetoric like Obama is and caving the way Reid has done.

Yes, what concerns me about Obama is that he actually WILL be to much the compromiser. I hope not.

Anyhow, he didn't praise Reagan. He alluded to the fact he had a huge impact. And Reagan did.

10. I never said I liked his policies
I grew up under that shit, and don't ever want to go back. I'm just saying that it's possible to acknowledge that there is some positivity in finding common ground in an extremely divided country. Can't see the harm in being attractive to crossover voters. Personally I'm sick of the fact that we've been fighting the same battles since 1988.

6. I dunno
He runs on a platform of inclusiveness and getting along with Republicans - but when someone actually does (aka Hillary) he acuses them of being Bush-lite and touting the Republican agenda. Exactly what kind of Unity is he pushing?
