3. I wonder
if they ran a poll with Dean vs. Bush, would Dean win too?

If so, UGH.

4. RE: "I wonder"
Probably not, all because of that stupid scream. I can't believe how shallow people can be sometimes. The press was pretty harsh against him, as the scream that was heard a billion times proves. Bush constantly makes an ass of himself, and they clean his speeches up for him. Our guy is gonna have to be slick and savvy; Kerry has done well so far, let's hope he keeps it up when the media tries to Gore him.

8. We need more though.
We need routine double digit leads. Enough margin to make the shrubco fear to pull the BBV lever.

10. Wasn't Dukakis ahead of Bush Sr. by 17 points?
Frankly, this doesn't impress me. After all the positive new coverage Kerry has gotten, he's still only at 48%? This doesn't bode well. The fact is, Bush is just getting started. Moreover, it's hard to imagine the economic numbers getting substantially worse than they are now. Things could get worse in Iraq, but that's out of Kerry's control.

So Bush is at a trough and Kerry is at a peak (the highest peak he's likely to reach until the Democratic convention) and it's still a statistical dead heat.

11. Not this far ahead, not against an incumbent
Kerry's lead is really anomalous. The opponent tends to do BETTER from this point forward.

13. Back then
Registered Republicans only constituted 42 percent of the population and the only way they ever won races was to convince Democrats who had a majority of the electorate, to crosso over. Now the party distribution is closer to even, but now polls indicate that 50 percent more Republicans are in favor of Kerry and crossing over party line that Democrats who have polled as crossing over to vote Republican, so Kerry can afford to not do as well as Bush among independents and still win the election.

15. Including honest polling--it's still not enough--Bush will bring...
out the big guns like Osama or a unexpected...(you know) and he will appear a strong leader. I'm betting he can't debate Kerry head to head. That will have an impact. How can a president be so weak yet so strong?

But it's not going to amount to much more than 48 hours of glee if Iraq is mired in a massive civil war by autumn. Hint: It will be. That place is a powder keg and it's the one variable Karl Rove has little or no control over.

17. As long as he runs a good, positive campaign,
strikes back when needed, and has an economic situation that isn't booming, he'll be fine. I think he'll stay above Bush when it counts. It's easy to blow a lead when you run a campaign like Dukakis did. Dukakis had embarrassing moments like the tank incident. Gore wasn't ahead this early, and he got too much advice from his family. Now Tipper and Karenna are intelligent women (not to mention me having a crush on Karenna), but they aren't strategists. Kerry is shrewd enough to not mess up himself, and his advisors have done very well. And I agree with the one poster about an Iraq civil war. Go Kerry!

19. It Only Matters If People Vote
If 100% of elegible voters voted, Bush would not have a chance. But they don't, and it's worse on the Democratic side. If you really want Kerry to win in November, don't just vote but get others registered and get them to vote. Talk to everyone you know and see if they are registered. You'll probably be surprised at who is not, or who doesn't bother to go to the polls.
