Poll question: Another VP Poll
Here are some ideas. I am leaving out Clark and Edwards because they will win this every time. I want to work some other ideas.

12. The vibe I got in AZ about Napolitano while in AZ for Dean,
was that people think she's a blatant opportunist. She would not deliver the state by herself.

33. Never met an AZ Dem
who would say that about Napolitano. She's the real thing through and through. We don't want her taken out of Arizona just yet, but are pleased that others are recognizing her. She will be able to run on her own merits in '08 or '12.

Bill Nelson (also of Florida)
Tom Daschle

7. Hillary won't get it
because Kerry already has the Dem base locked up, and she likely wouldn't bring any voters who wouldn't already vote for Kerry.

6. Bill Richardson
Edited on Wed Mar-03-04 07:02 PM by displacedtexan
Reasons:
Hispanic voters, environmental activism, energy conservation, Southwestern state

Plus,

Kerry/Richardson

looks like straight, white America on a Columbia blue background...
while it actually represents a Jewish/ Catholic/ Hispanic/ Gay friendly ticket.

15. He's a very capable guy but he had taken --
-- himself out of the Indiana gubernatorial race. Then O'Bannon died, and he jumped back in.

Current polls show him neck-and-neck with GOP weasel Mitch Daniels.

I like Joe and wouldn't have any problem with him on the ticket at all.

26. Yeah, I've been thinking about that too.
I suspect he's itching to get back into the action and he could easily patch things up between us and the EU. Question is, how long would it be before went off on his own, and would Kerry be able to yank the leash if necessary.

I like the idea, and its fun to speculate what would happen, but I don't think Kerry's going to bite.

17. I'm reassessing Max Clellan...Earlier, I had written him off
because of his senate loss in 2002. But the symbolism would be tremendous, both his disability, and his treatment by the BFEE. Worth considering.

I think Richardson, Bayh or Landrieu would all be solid choices; Harkin or Rendell would be strong.

Graham? Possible. Clark or Edwards? Unlikely.

Electorally, I'd say Richardson or Rendell.

22. I would honestly like to know how people who call Kerry a "true liberal
..could want Evan Bayh, John Breaux, or Sam Nunn as a running mate. If you guys want party unity, you ain't getting it with those DINO's. Or with Gephardt considering the slimy bullshit he pulled. He got exactly what he deserved in Iowa.

I think it's gonna be Max Cleland. They're practically siamese twins already, so it would hardly be a surprise.

25. Clinton / Gore was exciting to the media
because it was so unexpected. They were thinking that Big Dog would nominate some obscure northern liberal and when he chose Gore they were nonplussed.

That's what JFK needs to consider with his choice. Something that doesn't fit the standard pattern of a VP choice.

I don't have a clue to who that would be. Certainly none of the choices mentioned in this thread.

Where was he during Vietnam? That makes all the difference. Can't very well claim Bush is a ChickenHawk if we put a draft-dodger on the ticket.

Does anyone know?

35. Edwards, Edwards, Edwards!
Edited on Thu Mar-04-04 02:50 AM by katieforeman
Bob Graham- I think his quirks are kind of charming myself, but did anyone see the event in Iowa where he started singing? He's lost a lot of credibility in FL during his presidential campaign. Besides I think it is entirely the wrong strategy to pick a candidate solely on the assumption he will carry his own state.

Bayh-again no problem with him personally but why?? I grew up in OH and I can tell you Bayh would be no help in the Midwest. Edwards has more appeal in the Midwest than any other potential VP.

Nunn- This would be the most charasmatically challended ticket ever.

Clark- good man for secratary of defense, but he makes too many gaffs for VP campaigning. We don't want to spend anymore time on damage control than we have to. Furthermore, I don't think General Clark has a Vice-Presidential mindset.

Gephart- We have to defend Kerry's 19 year voting record. Do we really want to defend Gepharts too?

Biden- Secreatary of State. again long voting record and probably not the best stump speaker

Richardson- The scandels that occurred in the Department of Energy during his tenure could be a disaster in a campaign based on National Security

Of the ones you listed- Fienstien is the best choice in my opinion.

But we really need Edwards.

Sometimes the obvious choice is also the best choice.
