There is one political thing I want almost as mush as seeing Bushjr lose..
seeing Tom DeLay upset and out of the house. The Hammer is long past due his Gingrichian fall.

So what can WE do.. contribute money, certainly... but what else can we do... DUers United in the DeLay Exorcism (from congress)... D.U.D.E ... but seriously... brainstorm with me... I would really like putting some energy towards any efforts that can defang the power of DeLay. Remember only 10 years ago there was the stunning upset of sitting Speaker of the House ... Rep Foley.... it can happen... just would relish the oppty to find away to help such an event to occur.

2. You need a fundamentalist Christian populist with great magnetism

Pump him with money and show all the pollution, poverty, and other ills right in his district, while enumerating the thuggery and special favors to the incredibly rich. Then, banging the Enron drum until the cows come home, sharpen up the pitchforks and light the torches.

I'm absolutely with you on this one. One of the great ways to negate the influence of huge money, media control and the fact that Kerry's the known candidate for 8 full months is to attack elsewhere.

My personal pet project--which would probably be best launched after a successful campaign here--is to IMPEACH ANTONIN SCALIA. The right has opened up our eyes by vigorously employing statutes that have seldom been used, and skewing age-old assumptions like mid-decade redistricting. A Supreme Court Justice can be impeached, and since the rules themselves leave a Justice in control of determining whether he should recuse himself for favoritism, it shows that he's incapable of doing his job when he doesn't in obvious situations.

4. Now couldn't we create those types of images
that could be used in that district? We could story board a few ads that would be very eye opening to his constituents.

22. You can't impeach Scalia
Then there would be no one left for Clarence Thomas to mimic.

Then again, maybe we could just point at Ruth Bader Ginsburg and tell Thomas, "OK, just start agreeing with everything she says from now on".

3. isn't there a woman running against him?
I remember a thread entitled "want to sock DeLay in the nuts" or something. She was pleasant to look at too. Someone help me out here, so I can make my point eventually.

5. Here are the 200 and 2002 results.
2000
U. S. Representative District 22
Tom DeLay(I) REP 154,662 60.35%
Jo Ann Matranga DEM 92,645 36.15%
Kent Probst LIB 3,383 1.32%
Bob Schneider IND 5,577 2.17%
-----------
Race Total 256,267

2002
U. S. Representative District 22
Tom DeLay(I) REP 100,499 63.17%
Tim Riley DEM 55,716 35.02%
Gerald W. "Jerry" LaFleur LIB 1,612 1.01%
Joel West GRN 1,257 0.79%
-----------
Race Total 159,084

The guy running needs to keep the 92K from 2000, add 15K new voters to the rolls and turn them out, convert 15K voters that voted for Delay and run on the liveral line. That's what it will take.

7. Didn't have the texas house debacle (including grand jury investigation)
didn't have the growing discomfort with bush... all sorts of things have been going on that with the right campaign might at least make it much closer... and then who knows.... The guy is scum... you think that some of his constituents don't know it? Just how to get them, even if ever so briefly, to vote on that knowledge/recognition.

10. why do we think it will just happen... and therefor off in the future
why not start making it happen sooner rather than later. Conventional wisdom had Kerry out of the race back in November... and he now has it sown up... conventional wisdom is for the birds.

19. Yes, we need to deliver congress
We also need to take back the left at all levels of government. If we all campaign for politicians at all levels to move to the left, the decisions of our government will stop being made by the right wing lunatics.

I think the more that is talked about Tom DeLay with respect to ethics violations and ties to b*sh and his dishonesty the more people will get the message. (DU has helped me be able to do this with facts. This site is incredible for facts, research, articles. The efforts here are great.)

This may not help in DeLay's district, but getting more people to vote will help the democrats win more races. I have always encouraged people to vote and carry registration forms with me. Here in Washington state it is easy to vote by absentee so no excuse not to vote.

DeLay has to go, we have to get b*sh out and we have to get congress back before our country is ruined any more and before we totally alienate every other country on this planet. Guess that is why we are so excited about Mars.<sarcasm off>

Thanks for this thread salin.

I say we keep his name out on DU as often as we can and encourarge small donations! I'm in. I despise DeLay.

17. I like that idea
we could also keep track of DeLay stories from different areas or DeLay related stories - and make sure they get passed on to his campaign - in case they are useful or helpful.

16. there's a lot of anger
over DeLay's *interference* in TX. issues, especially redistricting.

One thing that would surely weaken him,
would be for the redistricting plan to fail.
Don't know how likely that is, but, concentrating on DEMs up for reelection there is a win win situation. And keeping the issue in the spotlight will keep the anger alive.

Then there's the illegal PAC money...
There's a chance DeLay will get subpoenaed.
Ethics violations would certainly hurt him.

18. all of that... but on the other hand the Hammer is the biggest money
grabber in the GOP House... he sets up all sorts of questionable power plays (maybe on the barely legal side of extortion in some cases) to get more and more money.

So the dem candidate ... even with all the info that should help turn the race ... has a HUGE wall to climb... and is in a very republican district.

It would be great if we could find away (I like OKNancy's idea) to somehow help his campaign out.
