I have a proposal: in order to maintain interest in the Democratic ticket and attract media attention, Kerry should choose his VP via a process somewhat akin the TV reality game shows.
For example, Kerry should announce to the media that the VP will be chosen by polling people via various means. For example, via polling at malls, via website polls, via various collected online polls from large newspapers and other media outlets, and via public events audience participation (audience applause meter readings at various TV shows, such as Letterman and Leno, etc etc etc). This rough and varied polling process would go through a progression which could be grouped into geographical groupings of state. e.g., the NE, the South, the West, etc. This rolling progression would gather suspense and attract free media attention. All the results could be factored in together according to a time frame calculated to maximize audience interest.
Of course Kerry could add weightings to various elements of the contest in accordance with his own interests and needs. For example, swing states results could be given more weight. And by him choosing the list of VP candidates, he already has pretty much given himself what he needs.
Results could be communicated to the media in intervals via interviews. If the idea catches on with the media and the public, it would gather momentum and the media will pick up on it.
The above proposal is of course a rough draft, and I encourage your suggestions. I really do believe that if we come up with a good plan, and then communicate it to Kerry, he would consider it. THe months between now and the Dem convention really are important and it would be very helpful if interest in the Dem ticket could be maintained.
