Why do dissenting opinions continue?
In case you haven't noticed, this isn't Dissenters Underground. It's DEMOCRATIC Underground. Get a clue! ROTFLMAOWCUB.

I am sick of tasting other people's sour grapes. I thought that this forum was supposed to unite but it seems more like it is a place for sour grape distributors to grand stand.
So you dissenter people find your own damn forum!

And furthermore, the fascist octopus has sung its swan song!

3. Just dead-enders who aren't ready to pull the plug on America

Kind of like a poor family, the hospital has already told them the life-saving surgery is out of the question, but they keep hanging around the bed, or at the nurse's station, whining for morphine for their loved one, a request which has also been denied numerous times.

Security will have to be called.

12. Actually, DU is a mini-Democratic Party
When Will what's his name said "I don't belong to any organized political party, I'm a Democrat" he captured the true spirit of the Democratic Party.

Democrats have always argued with each other. Primary battles can be 10x more vicious than the general election. I remember days when pro-marijuana legalization ultra-liberals fought labor hand and fist over whether or not to approve a stupid resolution supporting marijuana legalization at the state convention. And it was a life or death issue for both sides.

Here in Texas the old Mexican-American Democrats tried to have this white boy thrown out of their caucus because I was white, had just joined MAD that day, and I was supporting and voting for the anti-establishment candidate for Chair, Albert Bustamante (formerly of the U.S. Congress and the federal pen in El Paso). The late State Rep. Matt Garcia was the main one trying to get me thrown out.

I had a delegate from West Texas once screaming in my face and wanting to kick my ass at the state convention once because I was a floor leader for the old party Chair, Calvin Guest.

And speaking of ass-kicking, I once had 4 Teamsters that wanted to kick my ass at the Texas AFL-CIO convention because we had taken over all the microphones for Ann Richards in her fight for the labor endorsement over Jim Mattox in the governor's race. Fortunately for me, the Austin P.D. showed up just in time.

So I've just been laughing out loud since last fall about all the whining and complaining about bashing other Democratic prez candidates. This stuff has been going on for eons and it won't change. In the fall, everyone comes together to work to get the Dem elected, most of the time.

54. heh...
in NYC last year one Democrat shot another one over a political slight.

Here in my town the last of the uncorrupted Democrats was arrested at a City Council meeting while he was trying to get the goods on one of the others who couldn't remember where a $50,000 check went. My guy for the Council was wiped all over the floor by a last minute cute trick. At least we kept the school board-- it was a big fight to see who would steal a couple hundred million in school construction funds.

And don't even think about trying to figure out the Borgian intrigues between the Democratic county machines around here. We have at least three Democratic parties in this county alone.

Democratic politics is a blood sport-- you wins or you loses, and you picks yourself up and gets ready for the next fight.

And yeah, whining is a sure sign of virginity.

and oh no! we weren't going to lose our ideals... no siree! Just like the folks 5-10 years or so ahead of me protesting the Viet Nam war. No they weren't going to lose that spirit either...no siree.

Then we all grew up. We have the same principles but they've been tempered by the real world.

The very same exact thing will happen to these kids too. I guarantee it.

13. Here, have a pompous lesson in human nature
Edited on Wed Mar-03-04 12:31 PM by PurityOfEssence
You've been treated to it many times on this board, and it shouldn't be too hard to learn.

Just as an extremist candidate who calls for drastic and immediate change runs against the current of humanity, expecting instant allegiance is not the way of the world. Today and tomorrow there will be some sadness and recriminations--emotions being what they are, and knowing that many people actually care--but they will be largely be gone after that. Some will crop up to throw bombs, but the vast majority will ignore or quell them.

That's the lesson: things don't change immediately. Many of us are hearing versions of the immediate events that don't square with our view of things, and its hard not to bring them up.

For me, an ardent long-time Edwards supporter, hearing the media just flush him as a pretty faced moderate-to-conservative who only got populist because of the influence of the greatgodDean, is not something that's going to promote civility. Many are wounded and sentimental at this time.

This has happened over and over, so I'm surprised if it takes you by such storm this time: the human dynamic for something like this is a couple of days. It's already tidier than I thought it would be.

I, too, for all my snottiness in general and in this post, want things to simmer down and to build an unstoppable coalition; you'll find me working in that capacity in the near future, but for the moment, I need to get back to work and relax. Tonight's poker night; I need that. Last night I turned off the TV, played with the kids and went to be early. The California election was slobbering idiocy of the most exquisite form, so I too need to recover.

So, there's the huffy rejoinder; you too can chill a little. You're a rational and fair minded sort, so this must make a little sense.

This is the normal human dynamic; one can almost set one's watch by it.

30. Dissent is good
But instead of bashing people on our side, why can't we unite and work for common good and common goals? Let's talk about what the Republicans have done to this country. Let's work together to, behind our party's nominee to make sure that Bush is no longer able to ruin our country. We may not all agree on everything, but there's a lot we do agree on, and we need to work together, all of us, to bring about the right outcome.

64. Iverson was on Party business.
And it is not conducive to good thought for you to be inquiring as to his whereabouts. I am afraid that this lapse will have to be reported. Continue with your work until you are summoned.
