Lieberman touts McCain’s chances against Dems
By Klaus Marre
Posted: 01/29/08 02:49 PM

Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.), who caucuses with the Democrats, touted Sen. John McCain (Ariz.) on Tuesday as the only Republican who can beat the Democratic nominee in the general election.

“Look at the polls. John McCain is the only Republican who can defeat the Democratic candidates in November. And that ought to count for something,” said Lieberman, who was the vice presidential candidate on the 2000 Democratic ticket and calls himself an “independent Democrat.”

Lieberman endorsed McCain in December, in large part because of the Arizonan’s stance on national security issues.

During an appearance on MSNBC, the Connecticut senator said that he would continue to campaign for McCain in the general election.

“When I decided to endorse John McCain, I considered the entire field in both parties,” Lieberman said, adding, “When I committed myself to John McCain, it wasn’t a fairweather commitment for the primaries. I’m sticking with him all the way. There are a lot of fine people running for president, but McCain is the best for America's future.”

There has been constant speculation throughout the 110th Congress that Lieberman may opt to caucus with Republicans, which would shift control of the Senate to the GOP. Lieberman is chairman of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee.

5. You know under the rules we can kick him out now and still keep the Senate.
Those rules were agreed to at the beginning of this Congress.

Beats me why the Democrats don't give him the finger. He's not holding them under a barrel any more, given the new rules.

7. "That ought to count for something?" Sounds like he's more anti-Dem than pro-McCain.

14. DING DING DING! We have a winner
He's been anti-Dem for a long time, and managed to fool some Dems in CT, and they believed his lies. Among those lies was that he said he wanted to be in the Senate to make sure a Dem was elected president in 2008.

He wants the VP spot so badly he can taste it, and he knows no Dem would ever choose him, endorsement or not.

8. So Liberman touts McCain not just because of the war issue, but because
he's the best to beat the Democrats? I don't care if we lose the majority, I want Dems to collectively boot his ass out of the caucus--he is actively trying to humiliate us in an election year. Motherfucker.

Why anybody would give a shit what this war monger says?

In January 2009, my hope is our increased Senate Majority will make Loserman 100% irrelevant.

Then he can rest in the shadows of obscurity, only leaving the legacy of being one of the most ideologically fucked up turn coats in American political history.

Yea, great legacy Joe.

peace~:)

pathetic Democrat. If a person was writing a novel, they would plot him as a planted spy for Republicans. If the novel was made into a movie, only Leiberman could play Leiberman and he would be a good actor.

Sadly, I remember the excitement and pleasure at the announcement of his selection by Gore or the DLC, whoever/whichever it was. I didn't know much about him, but thought he must be good if he was selected and rewarded - and it was joyful that he broke through the the religion 'ceiling'.
