Is the GOP nominee going to be Romney?
McCain is inexplicably too liberal (they seem to think he will "open" our already open borders, lol) and Huckabee only seems to get the wacko vote. What do you think?

1. Yes.
Jeb annointed him quietly last year.

That's when I knew.

But he won't win! :)

2. I'd be surprised if Romney is ultimately discarded. He's got the looks, the pro-business
record, the nice-looking family, the money, and Limbaugh and Ingraham don't hate him. However, McCain has been around forevah and it's "his turn", the way it was Dole's turn.

3. Most likely...
The Repubs are hurting for cash, and Romney has his own deep pockets to stay in the race. That and the GOP establishment wants him. Rush and other RW radio shills have been talking up Mittens.

4. That seems to be who the BFEE is supporting. What scares me is who he would choose as VP. Jeb?
That could be one reason the BFEE is supporting him. Did he promise to take Jeb as his running mate?

9. that would be a concern.
so there you have it, McCain more war, or Romney another Bush in WH, not good choices at all.

16. That's what has been confusing me. Rudy got a hand from BushCo
oilmen but, he doesn't seem to be campaigning as if he means it.

35. I think they've decided on Willard. Poppy Bush hosted him at his Library when he gave his "religion"
speech and Liz Cheney just signed on with his campaign.. 9 Jeb Bush staffers now work on Willard's campaign. For McCain, I guess we'll have to wait and see how well the evoting machines have been programmed. My bet's on the machines favoring Willard.

It looks like Rudy is dropping out today after the FL. election.:) He's finished. I don't think he'll be anyone's VP.

Cheney's Daughter Joins Romney Camp

MIAMI (AP) — Liz Cheney, one of Vice President Dick Cheney's daughters, has signed onto Mitt Romney's presidential campaign as a senior foreign policy adviser.

Cheney most recently worked in the State Department handling Middle East affairs.

While her father and President Bush have both vowed to remain neutral as their fellow Republicans battle it out for the GOP nomination, the endorsement is likely to be well received among conservatives who comprise a critical primary voting bloc in both Florida, which votes Tuesday, and the 20-odd states voting Feb. 5.

Romney has also enjoyed the support of aides with ties to the Bush family, including top assistants to former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush and former President George H.W. Bush.

Liz Cheney, 41, is the elder of Dick and Lynne Cheney's two daughters. Her younger sister, Mary, has been more prominently in the public eye after revealing she is a lesbian and having a son last year with her partner, Heather Poe, despite the administration's opposition to gay marriage.

Liz Cheney, the mother of five children, said in a statement: "Throughout his campaign, (Romney) has distinguished himself as a leader who can guide our country with a clear vision for overcoming the threats we face today. ... I look forward to working with Governor Romney because he is the leader our country needs."

Romney said Liz Cheney brings the campaign "years of experience helping to formulate America's foreign policy and to advance democracy and reform in the Middle East."

Liz Cheney previously supported former Tennessee Sen. Fred Thompson, who dropped out of the race last week.

<snip>
Romney’s not just a fan of the former governor, he’s an admirer of Bush’s staff, too. The Romney campaign boasts at least nine ex-Jeb Bush staffers.

Sally Bradshaw, a Bush confidant and longtime player in Florida politics, now works as Romney’s senior policy adviser.

Bradshaw served as chief of staff for Bush and senior campaign adviser to his 2002 reelection campaign and managed his 1998 gubernatorial bid.

State Director Mandy Fletcher worked as executive director of Bush’s advocacy group, Foundation for Florida’s Future, Florida political director of the Bush-Cheney '04 campaign and a Northeast Florida field director for Bush's 2002 reelection campaign.

Romney national finance co-chairman Mark Guzzetta is a close personal and business associate of Bush, having worked on both of his gubernatorial bids and served as finance co-chairman of Bush’s second campaign.

Bush, who was best man in Guzzetta’s wedding, appointed him to the Florida Transportation Commission in 1999.

Bush’s press secretary, general counsel, statehouse policy director and some of his field staff all also signed up with Romney.

“Gov. Romney was smart, he came in here early on and met with everyone and hired us up,” said Fletcher.<snip>

5. I think so
For some inexplicable reason the conservative base hates McCain (I truly don't get that). At this point they're "stuck" with Romney.

Since the Crist endorsement McCain has been surging. I think McCain will win Florida and will go on to be the GOP nominee. I would prefer it to be Romney.

I don't think they can win it. Which is why I thought McCain would get it -- he has the least to lose.

But I thing mcCain is propped by the establishment so we'll see.
I see them as equally bad candidates - the bunch of them.

24. i'd like to see that, obama, clinton or edwards would slay him.
mccain is alittle harder to beat. i think edwards or obama could beat him, but hillary's to hawkish to win against him. if the people wanted to vote for a hawk, mccain wins that fight.

29. Too early to tell
Florida is going to be huge. It seems pretty up in the air at this point.

That being said, I hope it's Romney. He doesn't have any cross aisle appeal. John McCain might be able to pull over some centrist democrats. I can't imagine another GOP candidate doing that.

34. If McCain wins tonight, it's likely McCain.
Whoever wins SC has wound up being the nominee ever since the SC primary started. But this year seems a little more unstable so, maybe FL will be the proving ground.
