1. Beware any Dem that supports Clinton!
God you people are fucking sick.

A few years ago, he was a cause celebre here. Now you piss on him because you disagree with his endorsement.

Fuck that. I'll take Gray back any day over the simian currently in Sacramento.

133. So did DiFi
almost before she announced.

People don't understand the California Democratic Party is heavily, heavily status quo. It's almost a joke. I mean that in light of how "liberal" everyone thinks CA is. I speak as a member of the Ca Democratic Party Central Committee, AD delegate and member of the Progressive caucus. Half the folks in the caucus are Hillary supporters. She's got a BIG presence here. Not to mention a majority of her campaign funds.

It irritated you when the bastards bashed Kerry and Lamont for being "losers," didn't it? Gray Davis isn't a bad guy; he got destroyed by the Republican machine and by Enron's destructive manipulations of the CA energy market.

96. nothing is wrong with him he just was in a position above his abilities
he absolutely botched the electrical melt down and ended up with zero credibility.

He has been completely silent since the recall. If he was bundled in with some other endorsees it would add something but given that he has been completely out of the scene to pop back looks a little odd in California.

There is no real negative. Few endorsements really mean anything. Ted and Caroline had impact. If Hillary can get Gore it will even out.

From Art Torres (CA DEM Chair) on down. I know this as a party official myself in the state. The Edwards and Obama supporters in the ranks are unhappy that the leadership is so locked into the Clinton campaign.

This is no surprise.

Conservative right-wingers so full of bitter, sour grapes were able to take advantage of an antiquated quirk in California election law to oust a sitting governor, because they knew they had no chance in hell in the general election. And that's Davis' fault?

A lot of them are still upset over the mess that led to the Governator being installed in office. There was a lot of sympathy and thoughts of "well, he wasn't really that bad, now that I think about it."

47. Why do Clinton supporters do this?
Anytime an Obama supporter makes a statement against "their girl" they immediately say that poster will never be as popular as they once were.

Look around man. Every candidates supporters are playing this game. Take Democratsincebirth for instance. I use to really respect him as a poster, but he turned into a complete shill. Guess what though, once this is all over, and we get behind a candidate, I'll go back to enjoying his posts.

54. MF, this tactic is really starting to wear thin.
Guess what, buddy? It's primary season. Everyone is posting shit. Everyone has their own motivations, and everyone is getting emotional. Everyone is invested in their candidate; everyone is pissed off when people bash their candidate. And everyone is surprised when people they formerly thought were "good guys" turn against "their guy."

Yeah, you'll occasionally chirp up to defend Obama from bullshit, and I will with Clinton. But this "I don't love you any more" business is stupid. "I'll never forget or forgive you?" Jesus Christ, man, we're talking about cracking fun at Gray Davis on a webboard, not sleeping with your wife when you're in the hospital. It's not even about an obsessive love of decorum; you only complain about Obama supporters cracking on Clinton, but never cry betrayal on the equally-inappropriate actions of those sharing your avatar.

This OP is bullshit. But if you're really that upset about a bullshit post on DU, then I really think you ought to back off political discussion a bit. It's not that important.

79. It's not that I have a personal moral objection
it's that, as I said, it HURTS us. Badly. Destroying our own Dems, whether they be candidates or endorsers, just really hurts our party. It's what Freepers do to us, and I hate those fuckers, and I will never forgive or forget the right-wingers for what they've done. And if somebody puts a (d) next to his name and does the same exact thing, I'm gonna remember it.

63. People are rubbing me the wrong way as well.......
and I guess I could denounce them......But for me, it's just not that personal.....unless these are posters that I have met in real life or that I have a real relationship with (and there are a few of those that I have personally disappointed me...but oh well!)

I note that there are many on this board who's behavior and tactics I find appaling as well....folks that I thought once were intellectually honest.

So if you personally have a problem with me, I can't fight that....cause at the end of the day, I'm not here to please folks feel good about me.

68. My point is that I find this stuff
VERY self-defeating and self-destructive. It only HURTS us as we go forward, and I really want to win in November.

And people who behave like this, purposely and mindlessly tearing down Democrats and taking glee in it is just doing the right-wing's job for them. It just astounds me that so many people can't see that.

I liked Gray Davis - I worked against his recall and was really pissed when Arnold won. THAT experience means a lot more to me than any endorsement in a primary campaign. We're letting piddling shit like this override everything many of us have worked for for years.

Honest to God, I've never been more repulsed by a group of people whose conduct is uniformly idiotic than the Obamanation. Lockstep, willfully blind, spiteful, honestly you'd think they were Repugs.

I'd use the term Kool-Aid Drinkers but that would sound a bit too much like a certain former member who got tombstoned.

Davis got royally screwed by the media and he's endorsing the candidate that's getting the same treatment.

It would have been nice if you'd linked to Gray's statement of support so we don't have to play guessing games.

70. A personal ancedote about Grey Davis that I have never
mentioned on DU. My husband fell ill when we were visiting family in California. Because his condition was chronic, we stayed longer than we intended. As we always had the intention of returning to our home state, then Idaho, we didn't change our car registration then. It was after a couple of years and much soul searching that the family decided we would be better off staying here in California.

Well when we went to the DMV we were socked with a five thousand dollar registration fee including fines for not registering the car before. My husband and I were living on SS and a small pension, certainly not enough to cover this. No amount of appeals to the DMV made a difference in their cold hearts. I finally wrote a letter to Gov. Davis just explaining what happened and a little bitter sentence at the end about I hope California doesn't welcome all retirees with end stage diseases this way.

You know he got the fines removed because of the circumstances. It had not been our intent to break the law or get away with anything. He realized it was circumstances beyond our control. I don't think Arnold would have done the same. Grey was wrestling with the same budget problems Arnold is still facing today but evidently he knew that balancing the state budget shouldn't be done on the backs of those least able to pay them.

Although Davis isn't as left in his politics as I am, I have always had a soft spot in my heart for his compassion. I'm sure we aren't the only citizens he has helped out quietly in the past either.

128. Not surprised at the smears at all...
...but I am absolutely bowled over by the way people will toss around half-truths, quarter-truths, .00000001-truths, and baldfaced lies just for the sake of a smear. (Sheesh, if I'm going to make a nasty remark about another state, I at least make sure I've got the facts straight!)

But now that I've had such a rude awakening to the unfathomable depth of willful ignorance about the State Everyone Loves to Hate, I won't be so surprised the next time it happens (which -- checking watch -- should be in about 5... 4... 3...)

The only thing that will surprise me now is if I don't see someone accuse Hillary of murdering Vince Foster. In California. With Gray Davis at her side, digging the grave.

Every day there's half a dozen threads announcing how some local newspaper endorsed Obama, this or that author endorsed Obama, somebody's grandma endorsed Obama. Then everybody gathers around and oozes about how amazing it is. They probably have to change their underwear afterwards. Whenever Hillary gets an endorsement those same people do everything they can to tear down her supporters as garbage. If those people were here in person they'd probably get their eyes clawed out for having the audacity to not back St. Obama. It's insane.
