WE are the hypocrites~

Handshakes-snubs-tears-standing to applaud- how they look- dress- speak _________________________________ad nausem.

All of this is petty crap.

And we get so frustrated and pissed off when instead of impeachment or ending the war or stopping FISA or closing GITMO or any number of really important issues our politicians spend hour after hour day after day debating so many relatively unimportant things- they can argue and filibuster forever, like a bunch of fools.

And here we are- needing to have a separate forum for this kind of stupid behaviour?

Why do we think that politicians should behave any differently than we do ourselves?

When do we take responsibility for our own actions, rather than delighting in pointing our fingers at everyone else?

I want to be a part of something better- Don't you?- Can't we come up with something better than this??

Sorry if this offends- I do believe this needs to be discussed.

1. we also need to point those fingers at ourselves.
When the Supreme Court got involved that is when we should have been on the streets en masse.

2. Yes! Let's get back to the issues!
I'm sick of all the petty crap flying around here now.

3. Usually I think that politicians should behave differently than we do
but in the specific case of handshakegate, I feel that this is being blown out of proportion. If I were at a cocktail party and two people were talking and I was standing there awkwardly, I would have turned and walked away too.

7. Yup, it's hugely embarrassing that the only discussion
that can occur is apparently over stupid stuff.

6. You're right. We are pathetic.

We bitch when the media talks about the Spears family and Paris Hilton, stupid, trivial issues like that and we are no better. Instead of talking about political differences, we're foaming at the mouth over... a handshake? Wow, we are fucking pathetic. It's sad, really, that this gets people more heated up than the more important issues.

8. thanks to all who replied. I don't really
know how to help us.

Beyond platitudes, but maybe they exist, because they have something to offer us.

I'm sure there are others- ??

9. the night should have been about State of the Union
real state and Bush's fantasy. The posts went from analyzing Sibelius' (sp?) and Biden's reactions to suddenly handshakegate.

I'm going to focus on real leadership I've seen -- most Democrats doing the right thing on FISA on Monday - led by the courageous Dodd, Feingold, Whitehouse, others. Biden's excellent response to Bush and his leadership on Darfur (bet most of us missed that press release).

I hope if we had Biden or Dodd in the race we'd have better things to argue about. On the other hand, if the media is reducing it to who gives a funny look at whom on the playground, I'm happy Joe and Chris can go do real things instead.
