I am betting that Richardson endorses Obama...here's why..
It is an open secret in Washington thet Richardson has always wanted to be Secretary of State and probably to a lesser degree to be VP.

He has two roadblocks to Foggy Bottom with Hillary... Madeline Albright and Richard Holbrook, both of whom are advising Hillary. Both are exceedingly competent and kudus to Hillary for pickeing them up.

The point is that Richardson while extremely competent and liked in international circles, was a terribly good campaigner and might get passed over for the VEEP slot by both... So his best shot at a substantive role is SOS with Obama.

That has to be a major part of his calculus since he has passed on the Domeneci seat

2. Richardson would make a superb SOS
I'd actually prefer Joe Biden as SOS. But that has the potential to lose the Dems a seat in the Senate, which they can't afford.

3. gonna be kinda tough for BR to make that decision since a
great majority of the hispanic support and vote is for HRC. I do not believe BR will turn his back on the hispanic community.but then again I could be wrong since loyalty means nothing these days....I speak of the folks that would not be in any postion if it had not been for WJC to believe in them and opened the door for them.

11. the hispanic community is not a mindless block of people
and how you can distort it so that it's Richardson turning his back on the hispanic community, would be a mystery to me- except you're the one that said it.

13. I agree Cuban Americans and mexican american are very different politically.
There was a point where I though that Richardson would help in FLorida. Butr I am pretty sure he would not.

Possibly the onlyway to put Forida in play is to put Bob Graham on the ticket.

4. Albright won't be Hillary's SAS. More likely Holbrook will be her SOS
If Obama can get Richardson's endorsement, that could help him a lot with Hispanic voters. Hillary is killing in among Hispanic voters. She gets 70% of Hispanic support.

Dem Candidates Courting Richardson For Endorsement

By Eric Kleefeld - January 29, 2008, 8:56AM

Bill Richardson's own presidential campaign might have failed to catch on, but he's become a key coveted endorsement for the remaining candidates. The Washington Post reports that in the last couple days alone he's been called by Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, his former boss Bill Clinton, Hillary supporter Ed Rendell, and Obama supporter — and his old political mentor — Ted Kennedy.

Richardson is undecided on whether to endorse, but if he does he will do so by the end of the week. "If I do endorse, it's going to be a gut feeling. It's not going to be about statistics, about past ties," Richardson said. "I've been on the campaign trail with both of them. I feel that I know them."

6. did you mean to say 'not'?
As in "Richardson was NOT a terribly good campaigner".

I guess I would rather see him as SOS than VEEP.

10. you left out the 'not' though
"The point is that Richardson while extremely competent and liked in international circles, was a terribly good campaigner and might get passed over for the VEEP slot by both... So his best shot at a substantive role is SOS with Obama."

It's probably too late to edit.

I thought he might be VEEP because he was the most conservative of the candidates running, next to Hillary. Plus, he adds experience to the ticket, fitting with Hillary's theme. Finally, they could campaign as "Hillary and Bill" instead of Clinton/Richardson.

Now I wonder if he won't be excluded for the same reason Obama would be, and perhaps Jackson was. Since our history, with one exception (and an exception that got heavily trounced) has been a ticket of white male/white male. Having a ticket of white female/non-white male would just go too far too fast for 5% of the electorate, enough to tip the election.

17. Agreed......he will not be endorsing Obama.
Richardson dropped out of Nevada right before the caucus....although that would have been his best chance to do well due to the high number of Latino voters. He did this so that Hillary could win, because with Bill in the race in Nevada, Hillary would not have gotten more votes than Obama, and would have came in 2nd.

Richardson is very much a Clinton guy. Don't let him try to have you think otherwise.

The endorsement is one of their big trump cards......but to be surprised is to not have followed the primaries very closely.

I think the idea at the time was it was a strategic move to insure Obama would win and keep the nomination in play through SUper Tuesday.

18. you think?
I know there will be more major endorsements this week but I hadn't thought of Richardson. I guess I figured he might hold out hope to be Clinton's VP. I'm waiting on Webb, Tester, Gore . . .
