Is 2008 The First Year This Party Has Not Had A Single Candidate With Military Experience?
I can't think of anyone of our potential candidates, and I looked for it, that served in the military.

Is this unusual? Don't we usually have at least one candidate who served in the military?

In 2004 we had Kerry, Clark, Gephardt who served.

In 2000 we had Al Gore who served.

In 1992 we had Bob Kerrey and Tom Harkin who served.

In 1988 we had Gore, Gephardt and Paul Simon, who served.

In 1984 we had Walter Mondale, George McGovern, John Glenn.

And before that every one of our candidates had military service.

Isn't this a bit unusual, especially while the country is engaged in two wars currently?

3. The draft was ended in the 70's
Many of the new crop of politicians came of age after the draft was ended.

4. Bill Clinton won 2 terms with no military experience
I don't think it will make much of difference when people vote.

6. FDR had none and did a fair job as CinC during
a certain dustup. The trick of being a good CinC is setting mission goals which can be reasonably obtained and, most importantly, selecting competent commanders, brilliant is even better, and letting them do the job. Also, as always in war, luck and stupidity on the other guy's part is handy.

Further, spending a couple of years as a grunt or j.o. does very little to prepare one to lead the parade.

An era that has sadly ended.
