Clinton Gives the Surge a Standing Ovation, while Obama remains in his Seat.
Clinton and Obama’s divergent views on the troop surge in Iraq, however, were plainly visible.

When Bush proclaimed, “Ladies and gentlemen, some may deny the surge is working, but among terrorists there is no doubt,” Clinton sprang to her feet in applause but Obama remained firmly seated. The president’s line divided most of the Democratic audience, with nearly half standing to applaud and the other half sitting in stony silence.

5. The quote would lead me to believe she was applauding the strategy

23. Which makes her a bad choice for president
Are you saying that she will be like Ronald Reagan, who dozed off and when Lee Atwater wandered into his office, spying a thumbtack on the floor and saying "oh, look a tack..." suddenly jerked awake and fumbled for the nuclear button gasping "attack? ATACK???"

Oh that just fills me with confidence.

31. Forget about politics for 1 minute, The invasion of Iraq has killed over 100000 people
Edited on Tue Jan-29-08 06:14 AM by still_one
What about the Mothers and Fathers, and children whose lives are destroyed by this senseless war

In 5 years when we are still there, please look back and remember. We forgot the lessons of Viet Nam, a war also based on lies

No more people killed because of LIES

It is an insult to over 1 million people killed in the Viet Nam war, and those killed and wounded in this war, that we are still beating the war drums, and all we can do is play politics

54. Oh that is always a fine dodge.
No matter that we've sent our soldiers off on a criminal enterprise, we must at every opportunity jump to our feet and cheer them, no matter how wrong the 'mission', no matter how long that wrong mission continues. Always the sport the troops dodge. It is crap. Mindless militarism supports murderous leaders.

40. any Democrat who stand to applaud miserable psycho war-criminal and his illegal slaughter supports
that his criminal, murderous slaughter for power and oil. But then, they won't impeach the illegitimate, election-stealing little fraud for his crimes against the Constitution, won't stop funding his slaughter in Iraq, won't stand against his transfer of wealth from workers to owners, won't stand against his far-right wing SCOTUS nominees, won't oppose his torture-condoning appointees, won't stand up to the corporate powers who fund their campaigns, and ignore the only candidate running with clean money. At this point I am not far from not giving a damn who wins the election, since it is plainer than ever that the only winner will be the militrary-industrial-prison complex Party - the Corporatocrats.

47. In fairness, he was up and out of his seat cheering for invading Iran -

When Bush warned the Iranian government that “America will confront those who threaten our troops, we will stand by our allies, and we will defend our vital interests in the Persian Gulf” Obama jumped up to applaud. Clinton leaned across Sen. Joseph Biden (D-Del.), seated to her left, to look in Obama’s direction before slowly standing.

yes - she calculated her move, but Obama cheered for this.

49. She and Obama have identical voting records about the surge and all other matters related to Iraq.

...during the years during which both have served in the Senate. There is an actual public record of both opposing the surge. Last night was political theater. She chose to be viewed as being happy that Al Quada appears to be weaker inside Iraq now compared to a year ago. Obama chose to visually accent his differences with Bush. They are somewhat different visual political statements, but their actual words and votes have not been at odds on this.
