Poll question: The Candidates' Milkshake Poll.
During this crucial period of the primary campaign, which single flavor of milkshake do you personally feel is favored by a majority of YOUR candidate's supporters?

more of a "sherbet freeze" than a milkshake, truth be told.

You name the flavor, I'll pick up the tab.

Hi, mathewsleep.

I'm the last person to tell you what to do. You know what your next step is long before any of the rest of us.

But if you decide to linger on and post on these boards, I'm extremely likely to read what you have to say.

all good wishes.

18. A dish of ice cream, first. Cool the soul with cold sweets. Next,
get comfortable and slap on the headsets, lie on the floor and listen to whatever CD rocks your world or leads you to enchanted gardens.

Come tomorrow, rent a film you love and respect very much, take it home, watch it. Write your best friend a letter and just say how much that film inhabits you, and how much you inhabit the film, and demand that your friend see the film too.

If you have a dog, take it for a walk and introduce the world to the dog as if it was the first walk either of you ever took down the street. Dogs can be great uplifters.

Matthew, I really don't have any other response to the handshake threads except my milkshake thread.

It's the only sane way out of the Joker's tunnel.

"Baba O'Riley", "Bargain", "Behind Blue Eyes" Some of the best songs Townsend ever wrote. Quadrophenia has always been a favorite too, I've faught countless battles between the Rockers and the Mods in my head.

Out of my brain on the 5:15.

great albums, but WHO'S NEXT shows up on a lot of people's lists.

But there are only a few nearly perfect compositions. I think "Behind Blue Eyes" is one of those rare few.

41. We disagree on that one, Rocky. I believe you have to be awfully damned
smart going in or music -- especially a dj's role -- is going to be too much to wrangle with at once.

We agree on politics, and I'm happy for that, but we seem to agree on music even more.

Do you know Townsend's "The Sea Refuses no River" from his solo recording, ALL THE BEST COWBOYS HAVE CHINESE EYES ? That composition kicks me in the stomach without mercy every time I hear it.

50. Where does Townshend go to collect the images he comes up with?
Edited on Tue Jan-29-08 12:36 AM by Old Crusoe
He's always been this kind of fierce, no-nonsense kind of fatalist rocker, but with something like TOMMY and especially QUADROPHENIA, he makes ordinary things and people deified somehow.

"Rough Boys" I think was on EMPTY GLASS and then after that he released ALL THE BEST COWBOYS HAVE CHINESE EYES. I think it's hard to argue with that stretch of songwriting.

His rock'n'roll has always been connected to both the brains and the ... uh, dangly things.

53. One of my favorite quotes from Townshend-
On being inducted into the Rock'n'Roll Hall of Fame, a reporter ask him about the new music today.

"It's not our job to like it, it's not even our job to buy it, it's our job to get the fuck out of the way."

And yeah, what was he smoking when he came up with a deaf dumb and blind kid that sure played a mean pinball.

56. Yes -- there it is -- that tough talk he's a master at, even as he creates
characters, scuffling and scorned, who walk away from the scene and take our loyalities with them.

How he does that is beyond me. But he does it all the time. And he does it as well or better than almost anybody.

Great quote, and thank you for the invocation of the "deaf dumb and blind kid." I've considered him a pal for some many moons now.
